I'm new to Omaha, have only been playing about a month. I have over 4 years experience at NL hold em. My question is how should you play top 2 pair at the flop, and it's Omaha hi pl. Ive bet the pot only to be called by flush or str8 draws and then they hit by the river. Same thing with a set. It seems if there is a draw people call any bet. Should you only play top set aggressively and just try to see the river with lower sets? Are the chasers getting proper odds to call if you bet the pot? I wouldn't think so unless maybe they have nut flush and nut str8 draw. Any advice would be appreciated. I managed to win a ticket on Poker Stars in their Omaha hi freeroll and have a tourney this Sunday and would like to finish in the money! Laughing

When you have the nuts bet like crazy trying to get people out the pot because your two pair is only good if it turns into a full house unless theres no straight or flush possiblies

Top two pair is crap in omaha... Don't know why they are giving such bad advice , maybe trying to fill the fish tank, but two pair is complete crap in omaha, you are often drawing dead to top set, or a huge underdog to monster draws such as wraps or straight and flsuh draws. If the board is rainbow, and it is checked to you, you can take a stab with top two pair, but don't go overboard , and if you get played back at you are likely drawing either dead or to three outs.

2 pair is a trap hand, you better have straight or flush redraws to go along with it if you stay in, otherwise you're just asking for troubles!

I dont suggest playing top 2 pair in a multiway pot. som1 will have flush draw or a set for sure. with a set and rainbow flop, u should try to slowplay. if theres 2 suited cards, make pot-sized bets to force the drawers to fold.

Huge difference between set and 2 pair. In general, bet the set hard and check fold the 2 pair.

If a lot of people are calling your raises to chase flushes or draws, you might want to try check raising more if you think someone will bet it after you.

One last thing, if they chase their draw, DO NOT PAY THEM OFF after their draw hits. I know it sucks to fold top set, but you have to do it if you want to be profitable.

Very true.

With a set, you really want to either hit a boat (in which case you want all your chips in the middle, you'll seldom lose here), or you want the board to stay disconnected.

The best cards for you are those that both give you a boat and complete a likely draw, such as this:

You: 8h8cAcQd

Board: AhAs3h

Here you'd kill for the Qh or Ah to appear. If it does, you are cleaning up the table. But if another heart comes, GTFO of that hand. (If a 2, 4 or 5 appears, not of hearts, you have a hard judgement call - did the opponent just hit a straight? I'd call small bets in that situation but fold to serious aggression.

POT LIMIT.

I feel more apt to get more monies in with a set.

Top 2 is fine heads up on a weak board...

In a multiway pot though, I'll take the draw every time...
