I have noticed that when playing small stakes you do not need a bankroll because the players are so bad. you could probably play .1 .25 no limit with 100 dollars and be very careful with the hands you go all in with. Once you move to higher stakes you need to have a good bankroll of 20 standard buy ins to handle the swings against players who dont hand chips over with mediocre hands.

I started with $4 from one HORSE freeroll and one 500K fake chip tourneys. I have been playing .05/.10 and $1-$5 tourney's and sng's for 10 weeks and I now have $65. I got up to $115 and then had a bad week a couple weeks ago, but I recovered. I was down to $20. I also have played some .50/$1 stud, if you like that. I think its only going up from here. There is some pretty horrible play at the lower levels, but u just have to be real paitient and just wait for spots. You get lots of people all-in drawing dead. If you like stud and can be patient, play that people are always paying off big hand with one big pair or two small ones. You can always count on that in the lowest level stud, you just have to wait for the premium hands.

A lot of excellent advice so I may not really be adding anything. Antonio's book is a good one for cash games. I often find myself going back and re-reading it (You can skip the gray story parts after the first reading).
I've built my bankroll almost exclusively in cash games by using my own form of time clock. I'll play in the morning and early afternoon on Stars and then switch to Bodog for two hours in the afternoon. I have different goals for the money at each site. Stars is for day to day living and Bodog is used strictly to build a bankroll. After two hours or so on Bodog, I switch back and take whatever profit I made in the morning on Stars and use it to play a higher level until I shut down at six.
Oh, and the most important advice for building a bankroll-Never Play Cash Games Drunk!

Don't underestimate the power of variance. Play .10/.25 with a bankroll between $125-$250 and I guarantee you'll be fine.

the most important thing is to read and become a good player at the lowest limits possible until you are winning regularly, at whatever game(s) you prefer. Then u can always succeed if u stay within your limits and play alot and are patient. Definitely watch out for cash games where your losses are not limited if you go on tilt.

Is it possible to play 5cent/10cent cash games online, coupled with $2.50, and $5 sng's to build up a nice sized bankroll to about $500-$1000?

If someone has acheived this using these micro-limits i have discussed above, i would like to know how they went about it, and if they have any tips they could share. Also, if they could inform me if they used both cash games and sng's.

I don't exactly have anything to add, for I think everything in mathman's post covered everything I was going to say, but I do want to reiterate that it is indeed possible.

I started playing $5 SNG's back in January '06 with just a bankroll of $190. Following the 30 buy-in (including rake) SNG bankroll method, I hit the $1k mark in June. I made my way through the $5, $10, $20, and $30 SNGs.

Occasionally I did take shots, using tokens at the $75 Tier Three SNGs or moving up one level for a few SNGs. Taking these shots are good for you, for I feel that they not only give you a feel for what the next level is like, but they also keep you going. Grinding it out at one limit can be tedious at times, so moving up for a few SNGs will give you that adrenaline boost you could use to become "hungry" once again.

Overall, the whole process was very demanding on my mind, as variance had me by my nuts numerous times, but if you stay patient, disciplined, and composed (again, all of this is in mathman's post), you will make it. It won't be easy, but once you reach there, it is very rewarding. Smile

hello

could someone tell me about "the Following the 30 buy-in (including rake) SNG bankroll method"?
what is it?

So if we are starting with SnG's as our way to begin building a bankroll, which one's do you suggest playing...as in 9,18,45,90 player?? Is one better than another to start with?

I've been reading a little bit of this because I'm extremely frustrated at what this is about. since winning $2 in a razz freeroll 2-3 months ago i slowly and i mean slowly built it up up to 10-12. I've been at a stand still for two weeks until tonight my dumb*** decided to sign up for a $5 horse tourney and surprise surprise i finished 2 spots out of the money. so now i'm down to $5 and steamin. nothing seems to be workin for me. oh sure I might make the money in single table SNG's once or twice out of 3-6 tries but god forbid I do anything at the .05/.10 cash tables no matter what the game or whats usually my bread & butter, 90-person SNG's. These tournies are so sick. Players are actually getting K's 4x's over the course of an hour and a half and hold up (they admitted to it) while when I get K's or A's once in two hrs they get cracked. All I wanted was to build my stack to at least $13-$14 by the end of the week but it seems near impossible now. I'm at my wits end. I can understand when someone says this site is rigged because I've played so disciplined and mixed up my games to keep things fresh and to keep whatever monster that chases me if I stay to long at one game at bay and yet I can't build my stack. And don't say I'm a donk either because I know I'm not. When I've built my play chip stack to over 700K and have played a couple 500K tournies (cashed in 1) I know I'm decent. Yes, the play chip people don't play as well as the real money people but I should at least be able to build my stack from 2 to 15 or if i've been really good 20 within 1-2 months but everything seems to go against me at the turning point. All I'm saying that no matter what these people say nothing is ever foolproof. Don't deposit unless you consistently cash in live games/tournies. Just play in freerolls and play chips and if you win real money congrats and enjoy. If you lose that $2-$15 ah well. If you played the best you could and learned from your mistakes then thats all that matters. the real money was fun while it lasted.

Hey, I've just signed to the site and am trying to do exactly what the thread title says. I'd just like to say thanks for all the advice written so far. Its all been duely noted, and hopefully will be impliamented. (Easier said than done).

I've been playing $2 +.25 sngs so far and have been relatively successful, except for yesterday's 7 bust outs in a row. Unbelievable bad beats. Back to winning ways today though Very Happy Can anyone reccomend any good books focusing on low limit sngs?

Cheers,
Gareth

I freerolled my way to almost $1000. I used a typical bankroll management criteria. Chris Ferguson's tip is real helpful, just follow that. I made a huge mistake of telling my friends about this, and lend out to them. Don't you ever make this mistake, because when you go on a losing streak, the money is no longer there and therefore you are forced to downgrade your buy-ins. So, that's my two cents on this subject.
