Technically, you can ask to see mucked cards in B&M casinos (though nobody does), so FTP and other online poker rooms automatically give you the option of seeing them.

I think it probably also has something to do with preventing collusion.

Anywho, it helps you and hurts you at the same time, so it cancels itself out.

Sorry, but thats the rule. If you bet on a bluff and I call you, I have the right to see your hand. Same thing if it is checked down.

Yes if you call they have to show, but in the hand history we can see your cards as well, which isn't true at the casino. That's all people are saying.

the technical poker rule is that you have the right to see any hand that goes to a showdown. and since you can't fold on full tilt unless someone bets to you...

I am not going to say 'all' since I have not played in 'all' casinos, but in some if you ask the dealer to see the cards that were mucked, they must show them to you.

This is the rule in ALL casinos. It is a basic rule of poker. It's just awful, awful, AWFUL etiquette to ask in a live game to see somebody's hand that they want to muck. The quote above says that this isn't so at the casinos, when it is.

I've seen it happen occasionally in B&M play. I'd rather ask the player than the dealer though.

It actually bothers me that some people believe they should be able to muck at showdown. It all comes down to that famous line "you are going to have to pay to see my cards." Well.... your opponent has paid to see your cards. I do not believe that position should give you any more right to avoid that dictem than your opponent who had to show his cards first.

The other day at a casino I tried to buy a pot on the river with a hand that couldn't beat anything. There were no two cards the other guy could have had that I could beat. I bet and he took some time and called. I told him he won and started to toss my cards. This guy threw a fit that he wanted to see my hand. I showed him, and he quickly became the enemy of the table. For the next hour of so he got pushed around by every player at the table until he finally left.

Even though he was well within the rules to see my cards, he had to be a jerk about it and he paid for it. Making enemies at a poker table is usually not a good idea.
