I've decided to really focus on my game and have a good list of books to read but don't really know much about the tracking software programs out there? Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

Poker Office is pretty and when it works it has lots of great features.
But it only works 50% or less of the time for me. I was going to wait for the license to expire and then buy Poker Tracker....but now that I think about it maybe I should just get PT now and be done with it. |

| Also, when Hold'em Manager comes out, it's supposed to be (most likely) the best one out there by far. Right now it's in the beta version. |

The biggest thing they do is track your play so that you can locate weaknesses in your play.
For example I think that I may be overplaying certain hands so I can look up the hand (e.g., KQo) and see what my win rate is with that hand. If I have played the hand 50 - 100 times and am showing a negative win rate then it is pretty clear that I am overplaying that hand and need to tighten up with it a bit.
You can also look at overall statistics to find out if you have any big leaks. For example how often do you voluntarily put money into the pot preflop? We know that a tight player, full table, limit, will be around 16% +/- on that statistic....if you are 25% you are loose. If you are 10% you are probably too tight.
You should be able to check these stats by position as well.
But for this stuff to work well you need to be playing the same game at a given limit. For me Poker Office doesn't differentiate full table from short handed play and since I switch back and forth it is hard for me to know if I am too loose at full tables or too tight at SH tables. |

I highly recommend reading this thread at 2+2, it's very detailed on explaining how to figure out your leaks in the game. I also recommend it to everyone else who wants to get the most out of PokerTracker.

* Some of the stats are for NLHE, but IMO it's still great to get an idea of what these stats mean and what to look for. |
