|
|
Simple question, but I can't find the answer anywhere...
In pot limit Omaha/Holdem, what is the max bet preflop? I always naturally thought it was the pot, but I noticed playing online that you can bet 3.5x the BB UTG, much more than whats in the pot (example: blinds 5/10, UTG bets 35 instead of 15). So it looks like instead of the pot, you can bet 3.5x the BB? I understand the point of betting more than the pot preflop, if you couldn't, everyone would limp.
When we play it in our home game I just decided the max bet UTG/ preflop would be 4x the BB, but I would like to know the proper way. Thanks! |

| The blinds is what start in the pot say 5/10. So 15. The act of raising is two actions, first you call, then you raise. So you call 10 putting 25 total in the pot. Now your pot sized raise is the 25. 10 for the call and 25 for the raise makes 35 total. |

| Yeah, but while that is true it's also very much like a string bet... so I guess there's no rule against that in PL cause in NL you sure can't say I call.... and raise you the pot. I know a lot of people do, but it's technically against the rules. |

| Yeah thats probably why it never crossed my mind, since I never call and then raise/ string bet. |

No, because if you are raising, you still have to call the current bet as well, but the act of raising is done all in one bet, not in two separtate bets. This is why players normally say "raise" before putting any chips in the middle. At that point they may match the current bet, and then put in their raise, but it is still taken as one action because of the verbal indication.
A string bet is quietly putting the current bet in and then saying i raise, or saying "i call your xx and raise you xx." In both of those cases, the act of raising is two separate bets. A raise is indeed a call and a raise, but the act is just one bet.
I probably confused you even more now lol. |
