Why do they switch the hole cards at showdown?

When I check the hand histories they take the river card and replace it with your first(?) hole card.

If they're not going to change the rest of the cards, why just the hole cards and just one at that?

It seems confusing and unnecessary. Plus, I have to put up with the knuckleheads who think I sucked out on them.

Yeah, it is kind of annoying in the stud games. If they are going to rearrange them, why don't they get rearranged so that the best 5 are in order? Rearranging them just to mix them up is pointless. It should at least have a purpose.

It's done so that at a showdown it won't be obvious if you chased a draw. Live players will also mix up their down cards so that it's more difficult to get a read on them.

lol, i had a guy thinking i capped on 3rd street with a K. (since my chat was banned, i couldnt tell him that i already had the hand made) he sucked anyway, but that made it even more annoying when he was calling me a 'donk'. Laughing
it happened many other times too (when it's not as obvious that i already had the made hand), but the good players can normally tell if you did hit it on the river or not.
(it does help when you actually do catch on 7th though after fishing) Laughing
i will normally have my hand made earlier on or have a NICE draw, so it would be better for me if they didnt mix up the cards so i wouldnt have to be accused of playing badly... Rolling Eyes

it would be a lot better to mix up the cards so that it shows your hand in the end. like A34569Q or A22367K/A2367K2... it would stop a lot of arguing.

I used to try to educate people about the shuffling of the hole cards.

Not any more. If they want to think that I reraised on 3rd street with a hand like (K-5)-4, that's fine with me.

Be creative. Use it to your advantage. Say things like, "I just felt lucky. Felt like it was my hand to win." Or, "I probably should have folded on 3rd street, but I just had a hunch." Or, "I was hoping to steal the hand on 4th if you bricked."

Playing a hand perfectly while appearing to be a donk = money in the bank.

+1

And, for the record, FTP organizes your down cards from highest to lowest at showdown. It isn't random and it is all three cards.

It's the opposite of annoying to me. Makes me smile. But if it really bothers you: mute them.

Thanks clussman.

That was messing with my head. At first I thought they just switched your river card with your first card but then sometimes....they wouldn't. I never realized they arranged them from highest to lowest.

One less cluttered thought in my poker brain.

As for allowing them to think I'm a donk; not a bad idea. Wink Well, honestly it's not that far from the truth anyway. Embarassed
