|
|
I have been playing poker for 15 years, but hold em for just one.
I have been playing @ 15 hours a week online, and reading and re-reading books, and seeing improvement in my play.
Earlier this week, my employer flew me out to Kansas City for work, and Monday night I made my first (and hopefully not last) visit to a brick and morter casino (its illegal here in Mass.)
I went to the Ameristar Casino, which I found to be too smokey, grundgy and dirty seeming, and otherwise unimpressive, but I had a good time anyways.
I dont have a lot of money to play with, so I sit at the $3/$6 table with $40.
check out these very fun hands.
Im in the big blind, with pocket threes
There are 4 callers
the flop is 3, A, 6 rainbow
I bet out
I get raised making it two bets to go
fold, fold, call
I call, making it a 4 way pot for the turn, which is a 4
Seeing the possible straight draw, but knowing it is unlikely anyone was playing it, I opt for a check-raise because I believe my set is boss
my raiser predictably bets out, one guy folds, the last guy calls and I raise. The raiser calls and the caller folds, making it heads up for the river
The river hits with another A, I've now got a boat, and I know I have him.
I check, he bets, I raise, he calls and shows QQ for two pair
Now this one
I have JcQc and call the blind from first position, as did pretty much everyone else
The flop hits Ac, Kc, 6c, and I flop the nut flush
Im first to act, and decide Im getting little respect here, so I can bet out to jam the pot.
I bet, and all 5 call, but, then the button raises (yes!)
I act like I have to think about it, and then call, and so does everyone else!!!!! (yes!!!)
The turn is 5h, I check
the next guy bets, everyone calls, the button raises, and I re-raise, this knocks everyone out but the button who calls
The river is an 8d, and I have the nuts, nothing can beat me. I get soft here and check, and so did the button, who shows 2c, 3c for a flush, but mine is boss.
two great hands, that made me a lot of money. I doubled up finishing up $45 for the night.
Although the flights were aweful, and my luggage was lost, Im looking forward to my next business trip. |

| Glad you had a fun time. I'm surprised it was smokey though, you usually cannot smoke in card rooms, even in Vegas. Good luck again next time...hopefully you can sit with a full rack of $100. |

| Living in mass you should be close enogh to take a trip to either Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun down in Ct. They are an awesome place to go, when i lived in up there I visited the Sun almost everyweek, although Foxwoods may be the most impressive casino you will ever enter. |

| I was much younger than these guys. They could tell I had never been to a poker room before. I was getting no respect, and my table image was that of a new fish. |

I don't know where in MA you are, but I live in Southeastern MA and regularly make trips up to the Turning Stone in Verona, NY (Mapquest says it's a 5 hour drive or so as compared to the 1 hour to Foxwoods, but with my driving, I make it in about 4 ). It was the first casino I ever went to (it was the only 18+ casino around) and I feel a sort of kinship with the people there (plus the first time I ever went I left with $300 and came back with $3,200 ). The tournament director knows me by name as do most of my favorite dealers. It's a real friendly environment.
Hell, after I'm done with finals on Monday and my buddy flies in from Stanford, we'll be headed up for a few games during holiday break (we also plan on hitting up Foxwoods sometime, too; our buddy Nick just won 2.1 million there and he's been practically living there for the past month). Maybe I'll see some of y'all at the tables |

I played at Treasure Island Casino on Saturday evening for my first B&M Poker experience. I played at the $2/$4 limit Hold Em table and bought in for $140 in chips and cashed out an hour and a half later with $200. I only lost one hand and it was the first hand I played. I was in the big blind with A9o and checked the option bet to see the flop. Flop came down [A 9 Blank]. I bet $2 and was called by a couple people. Next card came another blank and I checked and the guy on my left bet $4 and I raised him $4. River came [10] and I checked and he bet $4 and I raised him $4.
He flips A-10. If it had been no-limit, the hand never would have made it to the river, but since it was $2/$4 he got to stay in the hand to hit his river winner. |

First B&M casino i played in was in Aruba. I sat at the 2/4 table and about 6 or 7 hands in i get dealt AA in EP. I raise and get about 3 callers. Flop comes with a diamond two flush and an A so i jam and get a couple callers. Turn was another diamond which i didn't like too much, but i bet out and everyone just calls. River is the 4th A! I bet and get raised so naturally i reraise and get called i flip over those bad boys. I won a decent pot and got a 100 dollar bonus for quad Aces!
To this day i still have no idea what the opponent who raised me on the river had, he just mucked his hand after i flipped in disgust. I'm guessing he had a flush and thought i was jamming trip aces.
Rest of the trip i ended up breaking even. The players were just horrible (not that i was great at the time) and i was losing hands with like AK to 10/2 cause the fish rivered a 2 or something. I was playing ABC poker and my opponents didn't care, they kept calling with nothing.
Great experience though. |

My first experience in a casino was 7 stud in the Grand in Biloxi, Miss. My previous playing had been restricted to once weekly games with some co-workers so this was a new experience for me, plus I hadn't played in a couple of years.
I lost $100 so fast it wasn't fun and I never returned.
I started playing holdem about 5 months ago and am looking forward to trying again. It's gonna be a different story next time. |

I know this thread was started way back in November, but I have to laugh at this:
"I dont have a lot of money to play with, so I sit at the $3/$6 table with $40. "
That's enough money to lose one showdown if you're lucky at a $3/$6 table. |

| I once sat down at 3/6 with $30. I tripled up when I had about $25 left and I was in business. |

True, $40 isn't alot at a 3/6 table, but that just means you have to choose your hand(s) wisely, and get a little lucky too.
I've bought in for $40 at a 3/6 table and worked it up to about $200. |
