| People talk about Razz freerolls, but I never seem to see them. Any info when FT offers them (days, time of day) would be appreciated. |

| Try tellin people like Ted Forrest, Beery Johnston, Tom McEvoy and Huck Seed that Razz is not poker because they all have a razz wsop bracelet to their name (Huck has 2) so if the pro's fel it is worthwhile to play then I am guessing that it has some value. |

| DONT BE JUDGEMENTAL! RAZZ IS JUST AS MUCH POKER AS HOLDEM. and actually if u get down to it neither one of them r original games so what do u have to say about that! holdem just became tradition to those who understood the game enough to see that if everyone was playing the same 5 cards then giving them 2 would increase their ability to make more solid hands and increase the skill level of the whole game |

Razz, in order to be played well, requires a different skill set from NLHE. Just looks to me that The_OG_Rocco has found his limitation. |

Razz isn't Poker huh, what a moron!!! Learn how to play and guarantee you will love all the action and thought process that goes into every street, unlike in no limit hold'em you can play drunk, total idiot, i've cashed in some of the razz freerolls on here and are about to enter into my first razz buy-in, i mean you seriously need to expand your base or you won't even get good at No Limit saying idiotic statements like that!!! |

A good poker player is well rounded. He/She is adept at all the variations, just as a good actor can play many different types of roles in different genres of film.
If you are good at hold'em, you are a good hold'em player, not a good poker player. |

There are certainly some exceptions, players who've won bracelets in both NLHE and Razz, including three who've won the Main Event (ME): Doyle Brunson (ME), Tom McEvoy (ME), Huck Seed (ME), T.J. Cloutier, and Ted Forrest.
I'd put every one of them in the "good poker player" category for sure. Huck Seed has the fewest bracelets of any of them with 3 (in 3 different games -- limit Razz, pot limit Omaha, and no limit Hold'em).
Reading Huck and Ted analyzing tournament Razz in the "Full Tilt Poker Strategy Guide" book which just came out -- amazing. It's certainly opened my eyes to some different ideas about how to play tournament Razz. |

If you can NAME all the exceptions, then I think that proves the rule. BTW, T.J. has admitted that he isn't the world's greatest Razz player, but won his bracelet with good tournament strategy and hand reading. Of course, Dutch Boyd spewing chips left and right didn't hurt... |

WOW! In one sudden moment I realized how stupid I must have sounded with all that SnG's are not real poker stuff. I apologies to everybody who's intellect I offended with the way I said all that.

Actually, I believe the reason why NLHE proliferated during the 50's, in America, is because draw poker only offered 2 betting opportunities and hold em' offered 4 betting opportunities and that allowed a more strategic approach to the game.
The 'ability to make more solid hands' is just an illusion that always scales proportionally for all the players equally and therefore favors none of the players. You have a higher probability of a better hand but so does your opponent.
Incidentally, I noticed that based on the logic that more chances to bet is equivalent to a higher degree of strategy, I can't help but notice that razz offers players 5 opportunities to bet.
As was pointed out to me in my anti-SnG postings, it is very difficult to infer that one form of poker is 'less poker' than another. Neither one is 'better than the other, they are just different.
Last year the prestige of winning the $10K main event was tarnished forever but the mere presence of the $50K H.O.R.S.E. tournament. To this effect, many to most of the worlds top pro's now regard the HORSE bracelet to be the most prestigious bracelet awarded in the WSOP.
Doyle called NLHE the 'Cadillac of poker' back in the 1970's. I am POSITIVE that if you asked him today he would have a different opinion. If he were inclined to make a similar statement again, I am sure it would be for entirely different reasons.
I agree with the sentiment that if you are a good hold em player then you are a good hold em player and not necessarily a good poker player. I think being a good poker player is developing an understanding of good poker theory and understanding how to apply that theory in unique circumstances. If you can do this then you should be able to excel at ANY variation of the game that you chose to apply yourself to.
Peace out,
dumwaldo
BTW
I love the razz round in HORSE because I can almost always count on that round to build my chip count. |

NH, Sir. Part of what I think people forget is that EVERYTHING evolves - poker is one of the most changeable of card games, or sets of games, and Razz or SnG's or having two blinds in Hold "Em, or even using all 52 cards, all relatively new adaptations of the game.
I think it was only sometime in the thirties when a mathematician proved a flush should beat a straight - change is good - keeps us sharp - |
