This is an excerpt from an article in The Scene Magazine April 2007 issue. It's entitled: Starting from Zero � Play like Chris �Jesus� Ferguson. I�ve seen quite a few questions about the status of Chris� 0 to $10,000 experiment which is why I am posting this.

The SCENE Magazine: What would you like to tell our readers about FullTilt.com?

Chris �Jesus� Ferguson: Currently, I am performing and experiment�I am trying to turn zero dollars into $10,000.

TSM: You�ve got our attention!

CF: I have been doing this experiment for exactly one year and two weeks. Let me fire up my Fulltilt.com program and see what why bankroll is. I started February 20, 2006, with zero dollars in my account. Now I have $365.83.

TSF: How did you create your real money bankroll?

CF: At first, I just played 99% Free Rolls and play money. Over the course of nine months, I placed in nine Free Roll tournaments and won $22. That�s how I started my bankroll. Since then I have been playing real money, low stakes poker on Full Tilt.

TSM: How did you make the move from play money to real money?

CF: I started out playing the $1 tournaments and low stakes tables. Then, I progressed to the $5 sit-n-go�s and the 10 & 25-cent tables. Now I am on the $10 sit-n-go�s.

TSM: What is your playing philosophy?

CF: My top priority is not to risk my bankroll at any time. Therefore, I plan on never going broke. One of the rules I follow to reach this $10,000 is never buy into a game for more than 5% of my bankroll�If I buy into a multi-table tournament, I limit my buy in to no more than 2% of the bankroll.

TSM: Are there any exceptions to your 5% rule?

CF: Yes, regardless of my bankroll, I can buy into any multi-table tournament for a $1, and into any satellite or real money game for $2.50.

TSM: You will not go broke that way!

CF: That�s the theory.

I have about $24 on PS now that nettler went gay, so i might try and do this with $24 and work it up.

imagine the patience he must have to play that level

He must possess the patience of Buddha. I get frustrated by the play at the low levels, although it can be insanely profitable. 90% of the time I sit at a .01/.02 table, I leave with 3 or 4 times my buy in. Now if I only had discipline ..... Embarassed

I would like to know if he multi tables when he plays cash games.

Ya after Neteller went out, I decided to do the same thing. I've always had a problem with patience at the poker table, and I'm hoping that this will help.

I've recently done the same thing as Jesus did with a little more risk on my part. I won a freeroll and got 5 dollars and immediatly went into the cash games and sit and go's. Thus, i didn't follow the 5% rule in the begining. However, I worked it up to about $400. It really is about patience and grinding it out!

Chris,

I had a question about your bankroll management:

If at any time during a No-Limit or Pot-Limit cash-game session the money on the table represents more than 10 percent of my total bankroll, I must leave the game when the blinds reach me.

so do you make sure you sit down with others that have as small a buy in as you? Or are we talking about any one pot? It has been a long week, so I am pretty dense about now Smile

Ive actually done something just like this.

Early in '06 I went down to zero playing part time. I used to play on Empire but pulled all my money out, except for some change. Empire decided to give me $10. Since I was down on my luck, I decided to play with it. I didnt play tournaments or sng's, only very occasionally. Probably a dozen or two for the whole year. And all of those were AFTER I built my BR up. I made it to well over $40,000. And every single hand I played was documented with my Poker Tracker. I started at the lowest tables they had there at the time, .10/.25, which was too high for a $10 BR, but I had no choice. I literally played cash game all the way up. Completely different than playing tournaments and SNG's and making a score here or there and eventually making some huge score. The way I did it is where the term 'grind' or 'grind it out' really came from.

If you search for posts I made there you can see where I updated how far along I got...20k, then 'well over 30k'. etc If you look hard enough, anyway.

Right now I am attempting a similar thing on Full Tilt. I thought I had cleared that account out but apparently I have a little over $40 in there, and a ton of points to use. So I am going to try to turn that into something too. Time will only tell.

OK, flame on, since I know it's inevitable.

Cool topic I'm also building my bank roll based on freeroll winnins and low limit cash tables so far im at $16

One of the main reasons he started playing freerolls and low stakes was to try to better understand the online poker players, so that he would better understand the wild and unpredictable play seen at major tournaments where alot of the entrieds are online. The experiment was probably jsut a way to entertain himslef while learning to get inside the mind of the online donkeys.

I thought he made it to 10g already, I remember reading something about him having to step down from 25/50 games to 10/20 and it was hard for him...
