Yes they can. Here is an example of an email that may be sent if you are ever reported for collusion:
Hello ****,
It was recently reported to us that you and 'FTPUSER' were colluding
against other players at the tables. While a review of your play came
up negative, it does concern us when players who have some sort of
relationship have played a high percentage of their tournaments together
as the two of you have. When I say, some sort of relationship, I mean
that the two of you have shared player to player transfers and seem
rather familiar and friendly in your chat.
I am writing this letter not to sound threatening or condemning, but to
suggest that it might be best if the two of you limited your play at the
same tables/tournaments. It gives people the wrong idea when two
players at the table seem to know each other. Then if we receive
another report and notice that your accounts are connected in some way,
it creates a cloudy situation.
So, that's really it. Just ensure that you play against each other in
the same fashion that you would against any other player and if you can
limit the STT's you share and the friendly banter, it would be
appreciated.
Thanks for your understanding ****. I am sending essentially an exact
copy of this letter to 'FTPUSER', just to make sure we are all on the
same page.
Regards,
Nicholas
