everyones heard the biitching of horrible beats on tilt for their whole bankroll in no-limit by everyone i play with including me, so i was thinking of switching to limit to keep my bankroll a little safer.
i know there are still gonna be donks and beats in limit, but im looking for the biggest advice for switching from no-limit to limit in order to survive the classic donk beats of fulltilt. any advice let me know. thanks.

Get a copy of Small Stakes Hold Em by Skalansky, Miller, and Malmuth. Read it and then reread it constantly in between sessions.

well im lookin for advice on how to play, not books to read, im too lazy to get any. thanks anyway though

Those will give you a basic idea of Limit Hold'em.

The main thing is to play tighter in limit than you would in NL. Basically fold or raise preflop, unless you anticipate a few people to the flop and then you can limp with volume hands, like 9Ts or low pp.

If you are first to enter a pot and you have a hand worth playing, might as well raise and force others to hit the flop.

Limit is about grinding, not stacking your opponents. As the others said, push your edges, and don't overplay mediocre hands such as 1 pair.

ok thanks thats pretty good advice.

but also, for a bankroll of about 60, what would be the best limits to play, $0.25 $0.50; $.50 $1; $1 $2, or even $2 $4?

i am lookin to gamble to make some profit here so im lookin for my best chance to make a profit, but i dont want to be at a limit as lowstack at my table.

side-note: would playing heads up be best for a transition from no-limit to limit, because you can sometimes pull off a bluff in limit heads up, but the lowest limit is $2 $4, should i go for it?

A reasonable buyin is somewhere in the neighborhood of 25BB. I like to buy in for 25-30BB.

at .25/.5 you could buy in four times for $15.

at .5/1 you could buy in twice for $25 - $30.

at 1/2 you could buy in once for $50 - $60.

I would say that four buyins is plenty of gamble. At these limits your variability will be fairly high and dropping 4 buyins isn't all that uncommon.

Well if you get hit by a bad run of -100 big bets, then you've lost your entire bankroll at anything above .25/.50 so you should start there. Swings of 100 big bets are quite common in my experience, I started at .25/5 and now play 2/4 and make a profit 3 months later, so stick with it for a bit and bigger profits will follow later with a bit of dedication and practice.

Starting out I agree with the tight play. If you don't have it now, get pokertracker. Once you become comfortable with the game I suggest opening it up, especially if you're playing SH. If you saw me play SH limit at first glance you would think I was a total donk, then again you would wonder why while looking like a donk I slay the SH games. IMO if you are not a winning player in NL you won't come close to being a winning player in limit. The beats are worse. The swings are more brutal. The game is a grind.

I'd say until you can play .10-.25 NL and win on a consistant basis you will not be good at limit.

It should help you a bit however SSH would be your best bet. If you don't have the patience to read a book you most likely shouldn't be playing poker.

I think that limit poker is a more enjoyable game then nl although I play more no limit, the game of limit requires what I think a lot more patience and some more trapping. If your playing super agressive players at the limit players you will be able to trap them very easily. Smile
