so i have a 6 player Texas Hold Em tournament home game. and im having problems with the blinds structure. whenever it gets down to two players the blinds are so high that raising atleast two times the big blind makes you commit all your chips. this problem really results because all the players want to have the blinds raised every time dealer button goes in a full circle. now this is good when 6-4 players are at the table but once 3-2 players are left the blinds go up too fast. so i just want to know if anyone has a really solid blind structure.
btw my chip structure is this. there are 4 different colors of chips. the first is worth 100. the second is 300. the third is 500. and the last is 1000. the starting blinds are 100-200. then 200-400. then 300-600. then 400-800. and so on. does anybody also have a better chip structure. |

How many chips do you start with? As far as the blind structure is concerned, you certainly don't want to have the blinds increase once a round - try once every 20 minutes or so.
I like to have 2,000 starting chips in my home game
arrange the chip values with 4 colors:
1st color=25,
2nd=50,
3rd=100,
4th=500.
start with 2 500's, 6 100's, 4 50's, and 8 25's.
We have blinds that are 25/50 to start, and then jump every 20 minutes, like so:
Level: Blinds:
1 25/50
2 50/100
3 75/150
4 100/200
5 150/300
6 200/400
7 300/600
8 400/800
For a shorthanded tourny, I seriously doubt you'll reach the eighth level. |

The first question is, how long do you want your tournament to last? 2 Hours? an Hour? etc...
I have found the following structure to work pretty well, for my home tournaments.
1000 in chips, 1st leve is 20 min, each successive level is 15 minutes.
blinds at 10-20, 20-40, 25-50, 50-100, 75-150, 100-200, 150-300, 200-400, 250-500 etc...
If you start with 1000 and have 6 players than once it gets to heads up the average stack will be 3000 in chips and you shoul dbe somewhere around the 75-150/100-200 blind level.
This allows for a tournament to last under 2 hours, and also for there to be enough chips on the table for "actual poker" to be played and not just all-ins on every hand.
You can divy up the chips however you want to reach 1000. You don't need 5$ chips. So, id suggest...20-10$, 10-25$, 10-50$, and 1 50 chip.
You can color out the 10s at the 25-50 level and color out the 25s at the 100-200 level.
If you dont have enough of the 10 chips, you can give someone extra 50s to start..it doesnt really matter.
Give this a try and I think you may like it. |
