This sounds like a cool idea.
I'd add the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society. I have a friend working in MS research and she says they do a great job. According to their Annual Report their expenses are as follows:
Research = 45%
Payments to Chapters = 25% - Chapters spend 20% on Research; 32% on Client and Community Service and 19% on Education, so a lot of this 25% from the national goes to helping people on a local level.
Client & Community Service = 7%
Public & Professional Education = 11%
Fundraising Expenses = 8%
Management & General Expenses = 4% |

| It's really sad and definitely wrong that children suffer the faults(dying of hunger and disease) of others. It's always good to help if we can. The people who are there (missionaires, activists, nurses,..)cerainly deserve our supprt. Although, closer to home, I think a basic is "Gamblers Anonomous" LOL,. Our teaches need as much support as any and our children deserve it. I would support a effort the make a new American Holiday too. Ask me what I got and or (show me whatch ya got little baby) . |

Almost ready to roll on this. ETA is about 1-2 weeks.
I am thinking of having this at the same time as our weekly $1 (Saturday's 16:00 server time). Sound good? |

| Please not Saturday's at 16:00- i have to work at that time. If it must be the same time as another tourny- how about Sunday's at 20:00 to coincide with the MBJ? If that doesn't work, how about Monday or Thursday night's at 20:00? i just want to have the chance to play for /donate some worthwhile charities, and those days/times are good for me. |

I may have missed it, but what about Phil Gordon's "Bad Beat on Cancer"?
IMHO:
The charities donated should focus on non-religious and non-political issues. This is a wondeful idea that shouldn't be derailed due to disagreements over charities and the charities political stances. I'm all for animal charities, but some take contrary positions to hobbies that participants like to engage in. FWIW: The only pro-hunting conservation group that I am aware of is "Ducks Unlimited." There are probably more.
Therefore, I propose that we choose charities that focus on children and the curing of diseases. Certainly there will be quality charities that will be left out. But there are more qualtiy charities than we have spots for anyway. Someone is going to left out of the rotation regardless. |

Sounds good to me... I wanted to add $0.02 for a few groups I worked with in Central and South America. Operation Smile is just terrific. They make a huge difference for kids for very little money. The Lions Club does terrific work with site -- there's nothing as satisfying as seeing an old woman see clearly for the first time in 60 years, except perhaps a young person seeing clearly for the first time. I still remember one woman's first sentence, "El bosque! Puedo ver las hojas!" I saw far more tears from giving out prescription glasses than months of giving shots to little kids. Doing that work for a month will change you.

I read the hole post and only saw one post for - Victory Junction Camp
This is a camp for kids. It is ran by the Kyle Petty (Son of Richard Petty's famous nascar driver) in rememberance of there son Adam. Please take a look at this one if the list isnt final. Dont know the actual percent of a dollar that goes to the kids But i would bet my bank roll it is very high, the petty dont need the money and most of the staff is family friends, and if i am not mistaken volunteers
Please give it a look. |

some info on Victory Junction Gang Camp
sorry this will be long
VICTORY JUNCTION GANG FACT SHEET
The mission of The Victory Junction Gang Camp is to enrich the lives of children with chronic illnesses by creating camping experiences that are exciting, fun, physically safe and medically sound.
Founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty in honor of their son Adam, the camp is scheduled to open summer 2004.
There are over 237,000 children in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia who would benefit from a medical camping facility. These children have a medical condition that limits their physical activity, and many of these children cannot attend traditional camp programs.
The Victory Junction Gang aims to serve children who are suffering from: arthritis, asthma, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, genetic disorders, heart disease, hemophilia, HIV/AIDS, kidney disease, liver disease, sickle cell anemia and spina bifida.
No child or family will be charged to attend The Victory Junction Gang Camp.
The Victory Junction Gang Camp will be located in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina on 75 acres surrounded by hardwood forests. The land was generously donated by Richard and Lynda Petty.
In its entirety, the camp will be comprised of 36 buildings which will include a state-of-the-art medical center, a dining hall, a performing arts center, an arts and crafts building, 16 camper cabins and a sports and recreation center.
The camp will have a racing theme with the sight, sounds, look and feel of a race track, making even a simple trip to the Fuel Stop (Dining Hall) fun and exciting for kids.
Campers and families attending the camp can take part in all kinds of activities like boating and fishing, swimming, arts and crafts, horseback riding and more.
The Victory Junction Gang Camp will have year-round programming. The camp will address the needs of the whole family by providing family and sibling retreat weekends, as well as special camper reunion events, September through May. Summer camp will consist of eight week-long sessions for 125 children each session from June to August.
The Board of Directors has embarked on a $24 million capital campaign to build and endow the camp. Of that amount, $20 million has been raised. (March 2004)
The Gang’s hope for all who visit and participate in the camp is that they will “Feel Your Heart Race.” The Victory Junction Gang is a member of Paul Newman’s Association for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camps. As Co-founder Paul Newman hopes that kids who come to The Victory Junction Gang Camp will ‘kick back and have fun.” |

| The hard part is that these are international charities. I don't want to favor any country over another. |
