In a recent editorial about Rep Leach (a prime mover of the Unlawful Internet Gaming act) David Broder reports that:
1. Leach lost his re-election bid by 49% to 51%
2. A post-election survey showed that Leach suffered a 5% swing due to the UIGA!
That's one vote in 20. If the survey is right Leach could have won by a 54% to 46% margin had he not engineered the UIGA.
1 vote in 25 (4%) would have lead to a virtual tie and anything less (e.g., one in 30) would have left Leach in office.
Voting or not voting can make the difference between 1 in 33, 1 in 25, or 1 in 20 and that is all it takes to change the outcome of an election.
If we poker players vote based on poker, and we can get one, just one, additional person each to the polls to vote for pro-poker candidates, or if we can change one other voter's mind, we can swing entire elections.
The 2006 elections are over. But the 2008 elections are already starting up. Once we know who the pro-poker candidates are we need to influence votes where ever we can. |

Novel idea. Vote pro-poker, or we'll cane you!
It might just work, even... Americans are more and more afraid or a beating these days... |

| I suggest you start a list of pro poker candidates on here when those elections are coming around because I have the feeling most people will be too busy playing hide the thumb to actually find out for themselves. |

I think this is one of the things the PPA should be doing. It would certianly prove useful for me as I tend to vote a fairly narrow list of issues.
Are you listening FT pros who advocate for PPA? |

It would take quite a stretch for me to believe that. In fact, it would be quite a stretch for me to believe that 1 in 100 voters changed their vote based on the UIGEA. It doesn't pass the sniff test. |

| Well lets be honest, if Matusow ran for president, you know you'd end up voting for him. |

On the PPA Forum there are threads for each state that can be updated with where each candidate stands on online poker. There has not been a lot of activety there, but it is available for us to update and put to good use.
