Hi Everyone,
I don't post very often but I have learned a lot from reading all of your posts and feel like my game has improved because of it.

I was playing 9 handed $1/2 limit today. Was not getting very many cards so I didn't play very many hands. However, in the span of about 10 minutes I got KK twice and got killed both times. Can you take a look at my hands and let me know if I messed up anywhere? or just got unlucky today.

Hand 1

*** SHOW DOWN ***

AliceInWnderlnd mucks

I feel like I played this well. After the turn, when he raised, should I have reraised? or was I right in just calling him down at that point?

In his hand he got lucky on the river and I'm not sure why he even stayed in. But I feel like I was gun shy because of the first KK hand. Should I have been more aggressive and raised him on the turn?

Thanks for any and all comments. I learn a lot from all of you. Thanks!!

On the first hand I think you played it well, the check raise on that board typically means I have two pair or trips but sometimes means I have top pair and think you have nothing. So calling down is what i would do too. I guess you could make a case for folding, but I wouldn't do it so I cant say you should have.

The second hand you should have reraise on the turn. He raised the flop and then just called your reraise, he then just called your flop bet, he fires when the board pairs the 2. Ask yourself does this bet make sense? Would he raise preflop with a duece in his hand? If he had a two wouldnt he go for a check raise, if he had trips wouldnt he go for a check raise, If he had aces wouldnt he be more aggressive earlier or go for a check raise? Unless from past actions you deducted that he had a monster you need to reraise the turn. Yes he got lucky on the river but that makes no difference, you should have reraised the turn he might not have folded but a raise was the best option.

Well the first hand was played well. I usually find a raise on the turn means 2pair or better, so calling down was the correct play IMO.

The 2nd one I would definitely have raised the turn. Think about what range of hands he could have. He's claiming to have a 2, but it doesnt really make sense. If he had a 2 then he would surely have check-raised you to get an extra bet that you would fire. So what if he had been slowplaying 2pair on the flop. Same logic so he can't have that either. Overpair? Maybe but you have most of them beat and the betting until now doesnt look like it. So a bluff? Probably. So raising is the optimal strategy.

Thanks for your replies!! I pretty much knew that I didn't play that second hand as well. And I think this is one of the leaks in my game. When I have some hands that don't go as they should, I tend to pull back a bit for a while and not play as aggressively as I should. I need to learn to put past hands behind me and not let them influence my future play.

If anyone has any good suggestions on how to do this, I would be happy to hear them.
Thanks again!

First hand was well covered

Second hand see my post about "the donk bet" Wink
Also, multiway pots where you are seeing 5 people to the flop, be aggressive and be resigned to the fact that kings will lose a good number of times even on favorable boards. Don't let people donk into you when you have K's though--even if you lose the hand it gives you good table image when you stay aggressive among other reasons (like any one with a pathetic draw that would have called 1 turn bet now is facing two cold)

Hi Deadmoney,
Thanks for your response. I have read your donk bet post, and it definitely has been helping me to NOT donk bet. Thanks!! Now I just need to work on reacting when people donk bet into me!

I realize that big PPs are not great in a multiway pot, but since this was heads up, I had hope! Unfortunately, things happen. I have learned from this though, and this forum is definitely a great place for that.

Thanks everyone!

The first hand you played perfectly. However, the second hand I do believe that you had to re-raise on the turn because the duece helped you out not hurted you, because if he had two pairs you would now be ahead. Even if you tought that he was not going to fold this still does not give you the right to play defensively.
