Thank you all for coming to our 8th PokerBling Tourney. This week we had a decent turnout of 22. Slightly down from last week's 27, but still not too bad. Play was very solid to start things off with only 2 players busted in the first hour! However, after the break hit, players went on an all-in frenzy and the final table quickly came around.
1-time bracelet winner Scott "Gunfighter" Gardner was down to 102 chips with about 15 people still in the tournament, but somehow managed to make it to his second final table and finish in 6th (?)! Can you believe that??
As for the PoY leaders, Daveeyboy (me) was knocked out in 14th place by PStar-06 (3rd in standings). I raised 3x bb (480) with JJ, PStar re-raised allin to around 3200. I figured he wouldn't make such a big reraise with AA, KK or QQ, so I called hoping to see 1010 or 99 but expecting AK. To my surprise and delight, I saw Q7...Q on turn, goodbye. I'm still steaming a little... PStar-06 moved from 3rd place down to 4th after getting knocked out shortly after knocking me out. He had a nut flush draw, gutshot straight, bottom pair and overcard on the turn...all-in...nothing hit.
Keating (2nd in standings) finished 21st, failing for the third week in a row to make a final table, after making his first four. He lost to another former champion and one-time bracelet winner Matt "1Truth1" Kowalski when Keating's KQ ran into AA, all-in with K-high flop.
The final table consisted of a number of return players, although the final two finishers were brand new. Congratulations to 1Truth1, Gunfighter, x redskin, renosfinest, mrgn1 and SloshedZeus for making the final table once again. Only chitty1, RickyG033 and cayouche were brand new to the PokerBling final table experience.
The final three came down to SloshedZeus, RickyG033 and cayouche. SloshedZeus was the first one out, but should be commended on an admirable run of 2nd place last week and 3rd this week. That's two top 3 finishes in the only two tournaments he's ever played in! Those two finishes in the two largest fields PokerBling has fielded to date has gotten him to #3 in the Player of the Year Standings.
The heads up battle between cayouche and RickyG033 didn't last nearly as long as previous heads up battles have in the past. There were a few swings, but the whole thing ended in less than 40 hands, I would guess. cayouche finished off RickyG033 when Ricky went allin prefop with A10 and cayouche called with AQ. cayouche should be credited with a great call earlier with AKhigh in the face of a sizeable bet from Ricky on the river. That hand was probably the beginning of the end for Ricky.
Thanks all for coming out. I hope to see you again next week. I put in a request to Full Tilt to set up THREE tournaments for next week (as we build up to the year end)! I haven't gotten a response from them yet, but I expect to get the room numbers for the three tournaments soon.
Expect a PL Omaha Hi tournament next Monday, buyin is $5. Tuesday we will have our regular NL Hold Em tourney, $10. Thursday will be Limit HORSE, $5. I decided to make the Omaha and HORSE tournaments a lower buyin so people who aren't very familiar with the games (me) don't have to feel like they're throwing TOO much money away. Perhaps we'll even get a bigger turnout.
Check out the PokerBling.com Player of the Year standings as well as a photo of this week's winner, cayouche, at www.pokerbling.com.

Except once when i got PP 10, I had never got a hand throughout the tournament y'day.
At times - some A rag os but there would be so many raises and I usually want to play tight, so those didn't work.
I know Davee will disagree but when I am in 10th or 11th out of 14, for me I am short stacked with about close to 3k when the chip leader is more than 12K.
FYI - Davee - Yes - u right. I am pretty much a tight player, but very rarely I do take (atleast try) advantage of that image and make a bluff. But that's poker.
And yes - I do play AA/KK very differently, and it works most of the time, unless it is a suckout day. Playing it differently people don't get a read on me.
So had to make a move with Q8 suited (not 7 lol).
Again took the chance with A4 hearts when the board had 2 hearts. I had over 18 outs and i knew Rick had only 1 pair so tried to get him to fold but he had 3 times my stack so was keen on calling with the pair and I didn't hit any of my outs.
With this streak of bad luck, I have to seriously consider if I still need to aim for the top place and bracelet and my come back.
Sometimes I feel very confident but I got to think.
I had a feeling Cayou will do it and that turned out correct. GG Gun. |

Thanks again for another great tournament Davee. I joined the one last week just as a lark, but I had a great time and decided I would go again. Now I am already looking forward to the next one.
Now I just need to break through and finally get a win. |

No need to defend your play, I'm not knocking it. Q8 all-in reraise prelop is aggressive, but you did it because you thought I would fold. A2 with a pair, overcard, gutshot and flush draw - all-in was aggressive, but you nearly got him to fold. You also had a ton of outs.
Since its my tourney and my post, I felt I should be allowed to rant about my "bad beat" a little though. (Even though Q8 vs. JJ preflop isnt THAT bad a beat...)
You're right about me disagreeing about your chip stack though. 3.2k in chips with the blinds at 80/160 is more than enough to play with. No need to be desperate yet. Average stack was 5k, but the two chip leaders were skewing that number with massive stacks of 12k and 14k. You were probably pretty close to the median.

Yeah, it was a great game (it's always a great game when you win, right??).
I was down to 650 chips at one point, but got a good run of cards, picking up blinds and all, got back to ~1700 when I doubled up, so I was around 3700-3800 when this happens. I get QQ, Gun pushes for 200-something with 22, I raised the pot, then a guy goes all-in for 3500 total with TT, I call. Gun spikes a 2 to survive and triple-up while I take the other guy out. I never looked back.
I must admit that I had an INSANE run of cards. That AK call was crazy, but I really felt I was ahead the whole way (the board was 7-high I think).
Thanks David for a great tournament. You can expect seeing me again next week for both Monday's and Tuesday's games. |

| The best thing about last night was Keating calling KQ a cooler. I LAWLED FOR HOURS AFTER THAT!!!! Hmmm 1 pr is not a cooler Keating - a cooler is something like the board beating 9JQ and you have 8T vs KT now thats a cooler! |

| I enjoyed the game. I will post more when my friend is not here talking to me. The only real reason for this post was to make it easier for me to find the thread later when i have time. |

Just though you may want to know. |

Dave,
Thanks for a great tournament. In all honesty it was one of the best hold em tournaments I have played in a long time. The competition was OUTSTANDING and my compliments go out to all for that. RickyG033 took me out when his queens full of jacks absolutely destroyed my horribly overplayed queens and eights.
I busted out pretty low in the tourney because I wasn't expecting such stiff competition. I got caught in a few bluffs, I overplayed a few hands and I thoroughly overestimated the power of simple agression in the field I was playing in.
I am already registered for next week and looking forward to it. I will be bringing a revised strategy and hope to turn out a much better performance. Thanks again for bringing such a tight group of players together.
Your HORSE tournament is on the same night that we have our weekly MBJ HORSE tournament and thats one of my three weekly 'must play' games, with the other two being live home games. For that reason I have not registered for that game yet but if I bust out early in our game next week I just might turn up in yours.
peace,
dumwaldo |

Thanks for the compliments Dumwaldo. I agree about the competition in the PokerBling tournaments. For the most part, everyone seems to be very solid and I like to think the PoY standings, bracelet, and winners gallery feature on my site help motivate better play. It's definitely not an easy tournament to win.
I apologize for hosting my HORSE tourney on the same night as yours. It's only a $5 tourney and limit, so maybe you can do both. I'm not very experienced in HORSE...or limit games for that matter, but I thought it would be fun to switch it up a bit.
Glad you had a good time and I look forward to seeing you next week and for weeks to come.
