I have heard plenty of bad beat stories, and they are all too common. I don't think aces cracked by a flush, or random two pair, or trips is a bad beat. What makes people claim to have recieved a bad beat is that they fell in love with their hand, and were counting the chips in their stack before the hand was over. The timing of the cards is important too. Getting beat on the river makes the beat seem much worse than getting out flopped. Flopping the nut flush and getting beat by a straight flush on the river would be a bad beat in my view. Also flopping the top full house only to be beaten by quads would have to qualify. So I'm guessing anytime someone has two outs or less with one card to come would seem reasonable to call a bad beat. Other than that, I think a bad beat is what people call their misfortune in the heat of the moment. And I am definately guilty of that, as I'm sure most are. One of the dealers at my card room asked me what's the worst beat I'd taken. I had to give it some thought and heres what I came up with. Myself and one other opponnent, I have pocket kings. Flop comes JJJ, turn is 2, river is J, and I lost to ace high. Nothing too brutal it's just the way the hand came down that made it seem like the worst beat I'd taken.

Its not a bad beat unless you lose to an opponent who had one out or fewer.

Thats the official Alex Scott definition, and I'm sticking to it.

Alex Scott,

Your the reason why America kick out all you Scot's and Brit's during the revolution. Your a typical European blow hard full of hot air that thinks he's the official word on everything.

My official definition of Alex Scott is, wind bag, blow hard, full of hot air and a know it all just ask him.

Apparently you kicked out all the English teachers as well.

My ex-girlfriend would certainly agree with the 'wind bag' part of your description. Especially after a curry. Its nothing a nice cup of peppermint tea can't calm down though.

Your retort includes both an attack on his English and a very contraversial sentence without a verb!

Anyone who says a bad beat needs to be 1 out or less is pathetic.

4 outs is good enough a bad beat. God people, seriously.
