they're nonstop, lol! its just a part of poker b/c so many donkeys are out there... just learn how you could have avoided the situation to begin w/ (usually by betting more aggressively), and as long as you learn from your mistakes, you'll be fine...

I sometimes think it might be better to wait until the turn to raise big, or go all-in, especially if I had an overpair, and 2 to the flush came on the board, and I was facing a donkey who will call big raises on a draw. I might just bet small on the flop, and see what the turn brings. If it's the flush card I can get away with not losing much.

Like when Men 'The Master' busted out last year, with AA. Dude called his all-in on just a flush draw. He risked most of his chips, early in the tournament, on a draw. Well, that's a bad example, because dude hit top pair, and still had the flush draw, so Men 'The Master' was bound to lose that hand regardless.

And I agree with KGBlovesOreos. Usually what people think are 'bad beats', are the result of not betting enough pre-flop. Also, many people think they are victums of bad beats because they don't know the odds.

I was short stacked in a live tourney last week, and went all-in with Q5s. I was called by AK, and when I flopped a Q, he got upset, saying how it was a bad beat. No, it wasn't a bad beat, I was only 2-1 dog.

Exactly so. I, too, have noticed that many people complain about "bad beats" when their hand was only a marginal favorite, or when they bet their hand in amounts that virtually guarantee a call by anyone who understands the odds. I can't tell you how many times someone has complained about me chasing a flush when they were only betting $0.25 into a pot that was well over $1.00. OF COURSE I'm going to call!

I would love to see one of our more seasoned players start a new thread about what is and isn't a bad beat.
