| In razz, the winning hand is determined by your 5 lowest cards in descending order. You have both made a 7-low, but if you go on down the line, your second card is the same and his third is lower. Therefore, his low is better and he takes the pot. His 4 beat your 5 in this case. |

Does it kind of not make sense to the principle of the game?
Lowest hand wins?
If he had 34567 and I had 24567, I would win, correct?
So, why would high beat low? |

76542 is lower then 76543, so yes.
You are starting at the wrong end of the hand. Start with the highest card.
In your case you both have 7's so it goes to the next card. You both have 6's so the next. He has 4 you have 5. 4 < 5. So he wins. 43A is lower then 52A. |

Treat it like a math problem read each hand as a 5 digit number with ace=1:
You hold 7, 6, 5, 2, 1
He holds 7, 6, 4, 3, 2
76521 > 76431
Therefore you have a bigger or higher hand. And since razz is low, then 76431 wins.
Should 8, 4, 3, 2, A beat 7, 6, 5, 4, 3? After all, he has the smallest card. But he also holds 8 high. You hold 7 high.
I think we should coin the term "holder" for a kicker in Razz/lowball games. The kicker handles the high end. The holder holds the ball on the ground for the kicker.  |

Which hand would lose in a game of stud high? The answer to that is the same as the answer to "which hand wins in a game of razz?", ignoring straights and flushes.
Just trying to come up with a different way of explaining what's already been posted. |

Your 65431 > his 65321
You each have 6 high as the 5th largest card.
You each have 5 high as the 4th largest card.
You have a 4 high as the 3rd largest card. He has 3 high. 3 is smaller than 4, therefore he has a lower hand.
Find your hand from the top down just like you would any other poker hand. Don't start from the bottom up. |
