I've been playing a lot of H/L Stud ring games recently, .25/50 and .50/1 level, so not brilliant but not too bad either. But, there is one thing that is really starting to annoy me. This is just a vent, but if anyone knows how to avoid it, then do tell:

When only 2 players are involved in a pot, and the visible cards clearly show that one of them is going for a high, and one for a low. Usually they look like made hands as well. So, why do people bet on 6th & 7th street? They're just wasting money that goes into a rake. I've had a few hands where I've ended with less money than I started with, and it's annoyingly bad.

Argh.

Well, against a lot of players you can't be quite sure that they have what they're representing, so there's a chance that they'll fold. I can be quite aggressive when I have a made low and I know that I'm freerolling for a fold, even if I know that it's a chop. The way I see it, the tiny amount paid in rake is more than made up by the times when you manage to push your opponent out of his half of the pot.

Or when you've made your low and you hit your straight and you're sweetening the pot for your scoop. Very Happy (I just did this a few minutes ago.)

That's one of the benefits of being aggressive in the spots I talked about. Either they end up folding the best hand when I can't beat their high or they end up paying me off when I can.

Wenever I see someone complaining about saving rake I type "super donk" in their notes. You'll understand it one day fire eyes.

Yeah, I think it was DC who lost a lot of chips from a pot once because he pratically told the guy what he had assuming they had the same hand and he wanted to save the rake... Turned out the guy had a very good, but second best hand. DC would have made a lot more, but he was too worried about another 50 cents or whatever. I don't know how H/L stud works, but I'd be very cautious of trying to save money to rake. Go for the throat every time, and you'll make out in the end.

I'm afraid I'm too much of a super donk to understand that.

The real question is, why is the high hand still in the hand?

He didn't practically tell him -- he told him. And that story pops in my head everytime I think I'm betting into a chopped pot. And those are always the times I'm not chopping and actually have the best hand. (I end up chopping whenever I think I'm not going to...it's just sick.)
