in razz tournaments should you risk a lot of chips early on marginal hands while the limits are low or should you wait for 7 5 or 65 or 54 good hands or when you know your opponent beat to try to compile chips. I figured that if you play the 8 its risky but you could get a decent amount of chips or if you wait youll make just as much with the high limits or what if you have 74AK and there are 4 people in the hand I usually fold, but what would you do? answers to both questions appreciated

The way I look at limit tournaments on FTP is, because we have all heard the complaints of how quickly the limits increase based on the starting stack 1,500, I dont like to wait around. I will play more hands, even marginal ones and accumulate more chips to keep up with the rising limits. and I have had success doing this. You cant always expect to be dealt 3 to a wheel if you wait around long enough, and even if you do get dealt 3 to a wheel, you have to take into account you could very easily brick the next 4 streets.
I guess to answer the 74AK with four other players in the hand question, that would be based on my opponents boards. One of the things i like about razz is, if you are playing with a player who can fold a draw (aka, non-n00bs) then it sometimes doesnt matter what your down cards are. If your board is A234, people are going to fold a lot of hands. I will see one more card with a 74AK because it is still a small bet on 4th street. then i would make my decision about whether or not to stay in the hand. Most people will fold early in that situation, but as I said, I like to accumulate chips early in limit tournaments on FTP.
Hope this helps a bit. |

so try to stay in with early since the limits are low early with marginal hands like 3 to a 7 or 3 to and 8 and on 4th or 5th depending on what you get that is the time to get out or stay in. but what I experienced last night is a guy raised every hand no matter what he got so I would have to pay 320 if I ended up folding. what should I do in this situation cuz I did have 3 to a wheel and he was showing a K 4 and I was showing a 2 K but end up hitting a pair a fourth to a wheel and a J what would you have done in this situation? I think I should have stayed until 7th when I missed my hand and then folded whats your advice the pair was dealt on 5th street so maybe I should have folded then.

I higly doubt you have to worry about a guy raising every single hand all the time.

Yeah, low limit razz are going to be full of people who just call to the river to see what they get. Just another reason razz is a frustrating game.

but how do you deal with people like this I think the only way is to play supertight and bust them cause why not reraise and rereraise if theyre going to raise with a bad hand

If they seem willing to raise a lot with a bad low, just get into a hand with them where you have a 7 low or better.
