|
|
Hi all,
I was curious since I have seen pokertracker mentioned in quite a few threads, and people using it to 'plug holes in their game'. So, I downloaded the trial version of it to see what it was all about.
After poking around, I am not sure how to effectively use it. What screens, filters, analysis, etc.. do you use to pinpoint areas of improvement?
Maybe it's the overwhelming amount of information, but while some of it seems pretty cool, I just can't see how to process this information into something I can benefit from.
Anyone care to share their thoughts/tips?
Thanks! |

| i was wondering the same thing. i was actually typing a similar thread and our internet decided to crash at work and it is now back up. some of the questions i had were: does it run in realtime as you are playing at a table or do you up load your HH and review your play after you are done with a session. next, how easy is it to use? i seen a ebook that you can get for $20 that explains how to use it. is that worth the purchase or is it pretty self explanitory(sp)? does it basically jump up at you and say "hey retard quit playing A9 offsuit in 6th position after there has been a raise and a reraise infront of you? |

You can either load up HH after the fact, or you can have it auto-check for new hands on a schedule (like each minute). Either way, you will have to go back to it to review your play. You can get HUD add-on's that tell you about the other players at the table, but I'm not worried about that. I am just curious if I can use this tool to help improve my game.
So far, it hasn't jumped up and told me anything....I believe you have to interpret the data yourself...but then again, that's why I'm asking as well. |

that is correct, you need to still be able to look at your stats and see where you're going wrong, or right.
I was hoping some add-on would look at my history and tell me areas that point to signs of poor play, but there is nothing to my knowledge yet. |

| I use GameTime+ (google that and you'll find it). I've heard of other ones but they cost money, whereas GT+ is free. Unfortunately, it only works for cash games, not tournaments, so if anybody can suggest a similar program for SnGs, it'd be much appreciated. |

| That's neat, but I don't think it can do real-time game-window overlay of stats like GameTime+. |

I use PAHUD and it works for cash games, MTT's and SNG's. It costs $25, but well worth it in my opinion.

The information on the HUD software is definitely interesting, so, thanks for that.
I am still curious how I can use the information in Pokertracker to improve *my* game. Does anyone have any tips or direction they can offer, or do you just use PT for the HUD addons to get a quick read on your opponents?
Thanks all |

There's so much information in PokerTracker, that I'm still trying to figure out how to best use it myself to analyze my game. But one thing I look at is my hand combinations, and I sort them in various ways (win %, amount lost, etc.) to figure out which hands I might be overplaying. For example, in looking at my stats, AJo is a hand that I've lost quite a bit with (which is odd, because I don't normally even like to play AJo unless I'm in late position or short handed), so I tell myself that I need to be even more careful playing AJo. JJ is another danger hand for me (as I had suspected - I hate that hand!!).
I know the PokerTracker website has a forum that will answer a lot of your questions also. |

Use the pokertracker forum. Also, this link has a decent start to how to use it (not the only way by far, but one of them): http://www.bet-the-pot.com/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=31&MMN_position=26:26
I recommend pokerace HUD - I used gametime + for awhile, and then switched to this. It's only $25, and I think it's well worth it. Look for trouble hands with pokertracker - do you win with baby aces? Do you win when you're out of position? If not, which hands are losing you money? Do you overplay (and hence lose with) AT or AJ? Do you play too many suited connectors? Keep in mind that 10,000 hands is pretty much MINIMUM before you can start getting any truly useful results. The 1000 you get to start really doesn't mean anything, as you'll get each pocket pair 4-5 times - not really enough to tell if you consistantly win with them. |

Thanks Jaconda and PCJ. That's what I wanted to know.
I guess if I'm going to purchase/register, I'll have to read up on their forums and the link Jaconda provided to learn how to interpret the data.
Thanks again everyone for sharing their thoughts / experiences. |
