Ok i am playing in 5.50 NL Sit n Go. I am dealt pocket J's in the big blind. This guy on the button and raises every pot and and he raised this one, I just called hoping to catch a monster and get all his chips. Blinds are 20-40 and he raised to 160. I call and a short stack goes all in for like 250 more and another limper calls too. The button calls.

Then it gets to me. The original raiser just called so i feel i have the best hand. So i want to push all-in, BUT I CANNOT. The buttons show up and all I can do is fold or call the extra 90. WHY THE HELL CAN I NOT RAISE?

Anyway flop comes queen high and button immediately moves all in. I have to fold now and so does the other guy in the pot. The button flips over pocket 9s and short stack has 10 7s.

So i have two questions. Why the hell would he bet into a dry side pot like that and WHY THE HELL COULD I NOT RAiSE PREFLOP? why were my only options call the extra 90 or fold.

Because the reraise to 250 was not the size of the original raise of 160 so no more reraising can be done.

He probably wanted to reraise before the flop too, but like you, couldn't, so his bet (I imagine) was to protect his hand.

With 2 or 3 other people in the pot, pocket jacks is not a hand you want to try to trap people with...

the only reason you couldnt re-raise is because the guy who raised after the button raise didnt have enough to make it a legit raise, therefore, ou cannot reraise. The only reason i could think of why he would bet the dry side pot is because if he thought he had the best hand, he just thought it would save time to get heads up against the all-in guy.

You couldn't re-raise pre-flop becuase of the answer everybody gave you. the bet wans't big enough.

As for raising on the flop. well, he wanted to know where he was in the hand. The purpose of that bet was to get information more then anything else. He wanted to know if any of the guys who had just call as well had caught anything. If not they where going to get out of the way. And even if they caught something they would probably fold it because of his bet (as you did). Thats shows how important aggressive play in poker is. In this case he made you lay down the best hand. because he bet and you dint.

I'm not saying this play was good. Because he went all in. He was risking his entire tournament life in this one bet. Had he bet about half the pot. Then it would have being a good play. Because this way he was trying to get information, with a chance of making you guys fold and going heads up againts the short stack.

Remember you cant win more money if you dont put your money in the pot. You cant be afraid of losing, you have to just play your best game.
