Ok here is the situation. I am two spots to the right of the dealer. Blinds are .10-.25 and I am playing at party poker.

Preflop
I am dealt KJo. The person to my right(Player A who has about $60-$65 in front of him) calls the bb, I raise it to $1.10. Everyone folds to Player A and he calls.

Flop:
4d 5h Kd

Player A checks. I need to get value out of my cards so I bet around $2.50. Player A calls.

Turn:
9h

A harmless card that I feel hasn't helped Player A's hand. I hit the "bet the pot" button, which is around $7.50 knowing he can't call a pot sized bet now if he's drawing to a flush. Player A calls.

River:
Ad

Worst card possible. I know he's got the flush or at least an ace. He checks to me, which is ridiculous since he's obviously hit his hand, and I check. Player A has 8d5d and hurts my stack which was about $26 before the hand. Where did I go wrong in this hand? late.

he was actually ahead... on the flop, pair and a draw is favored against your top pair, you're very lucky you weren't raised.

and good job not betting the river.

you actually played the hand quite well. You kept control on the flop even though, as matt said, you were a slight underdog. On the turn, when you became a 2 to 1 fav you bet the pot and made him draw incorrectly to his outs. ON the river you made a nice check. It was one of those hands where you did everything right but win the pot! Hate when that happens lol

Look at it from this perspective:
You and Howard Lederer have a below average stack well into a tourney.
Howard raises 3x the bb in mid position. YOu look down in small blind and see A/10. There are arguments for folding here, but you simply cannot call. If i'm going to play the hand, i go all in. I will not try to outplay a player like him with A/10, even if i do think i am great player (and no, i dont' think i'm great lol).
The all in really can be profitable here. If you just call and flop a monster (like a str8, trips, etc) is Howard, a great player, really going to pay you off? And if you just hit the A or 10 then what??

Im lost as to where this fits in with this hand critique

Thanks for the input everyone. After I posted this I thought about the hand and I would have definitely called a pot sized bet or even raises on the flop with the 8d5d. 8d5d is 1.04 to 1 fav to my pair of Kings on the flop so a call or raise makes sense. The turn I woulda have probably laid down the hand when the pot size bet came, but they call it gambling for a reason and he went for it. Well thanks again for the input. late
