What odds do you need to keep chasing a low after the first 3 cards? When should you abandon a low draw?

You don't want to chase a naked low draw particularly heads-up. You should only draw to a low if you have additional outs that may win you the high half as well. A split is just a consolation prize until you scoop again.

I suggest never chasing for the low. The idea is to scoop the pot. Even if you make the nut low someone else might also have the nut low and then you split the low resulting in losing money or chips.

If you have no chance at the high, then your opponent's equity in the pot is 50%, plus the chance that you will miss your low. If you have a 50% chance of hitting the low, then his expected equity in the pot is 75%. That means that in the long run you are going to lose money chasing low only hands. You never want to play for half the pot. In hold em, would you ever stay in a pot hoping that a card comes so you can split? Probably not.

Yes, I see what you're saying... but in the games I've been playing in, you get 4 cards for free usually, cause everyone checks, or you see 4 cards for a very cheap price. At this point there might be one big bet to call, and then you might have the nut low with 5 people left in the pot and huge multi-way betting. I've made a huge profit using this strategy for a month... I realize you want to scoop the pot, but that is rare... also, I've been playing a long time and seen almost no ties for a low in 7 card stud...

Am I full of it?

It all depends on size of the bets and amount of people in te hand...the more people, the more money that goes in the pot...but alos a bigger chance they could also have the nut low...

So you just have to be cautious because in the very long run....you will lose money if you don't play it smart

It's okay to draw to a completely dry low with 3 or more others going high. You don't want to be competing with someone for the low with no chance at high.

If you don't count any other cards that you have seen, a four-card low on fourth street has a 71% chance of making a low by the river.

If you recall Sklansky's "escape table" in SS1, if you are drawing to just half a pot, on fourth street you need about 75% or better chance to make your hand to justify staying in. (The exact value depends on the antes, bet sizes, and third-street action.) So it looks on the face of it that a bare low draw is a marginal fold head-up.

But wait...! Bare low draws can still win the high, depending on your opponent's holding. For example, if you've got (8 7) 3 2 and the other guy is showing (x x) K 9 for a likely pair of kings, you are still going to scoop something like one time in ten, by catching two pair, trips, or lucky straight. That small additional scoop percentage is enough to justify a fourth-street call. And if you make your low on fifth, you can freeroll your opponent's sorry *ss so that you can jam the pot and turn an handsome profit when you catch runner runner treys and deuces to beat their unimproved kings.

I think It really depends on how many hands are in the pot, what everyone is showing, and what low cards you are holding.I have been in hands with 5 people in the hand and i am the only one showing anything close to a low.I normally do not push to hard at a low draw,but in this case I might.
