First, I want you to imagine that you are the heads up opponent and tell me how you would of played this hand.
Second, Can you guess my hole cards?
(Scene) $2-$4 stud 7 players, I just sat down at the table, I dont know you, you dont know me.
deal:
Girl on my right (3c) brings in. I have (X X) 8s, I call, everyone folds except middle pos (Opponent holds (Kd Qd) 6d ) he calls. (Three people in hand)
(cards folded - 5h Jh Js 3s )
4th St:
I have (X X) 8s Ac - I bet
he has (Kd Qd) 6d 5c - call
5th St:
I have (X X) 8s Ac 6c- I bet
he has (Kd Qd) 6d 5c 7s - call
6th St:
I have (X X) 8s Ac 6c 7h- I bet
he has (Kd Qd) 6d 5c 7s 4h- raise
I called
River:
I have (X X) 8s Ac 6c 7h (2d)- I bet
he has (Kd Qd) 6d 5c 7s 4h (3h)- call
This is not a bad beet. What I am saying is the if I were the opponent, I wouldn't of called all those bets then bluffed a raise, I think I may have folded earlier in the hand, what I want to know is what you would have done.....(then I wanna see if you can guess my hole cards ) |

| A8 or a small pair in the hole. I would have gone for a check raise on 5th street...and if that did not work, folded to a bet on 6th...unless of course you had a set. |

| I fold to your bet on fourth street. I don't care what you have, ain't enough money in the pot to get me chasing anything here. |

I have a hunch that it's something better than just A8. Otherwise, it wouldn't be worth posting here.
Probably 88 in the hole or something like that. |

My vote is on A8. Because you said it's not that bad of a beat, and if you held rolled up 8's and he gets running straight cards to the river.... So i'm going with A8...
But with 4 cards showing to a straight and his reraise on 6th, I wouldn't have bet on 7th. If you think you had him beat and he didnt have a straight he's probably not going to pay you off if he knows his hand is worst. And I'd have expected a raise from him when making his straight on the river. But, it was one bet you could've saved (if you could fold your two pair, i fthats what you had! which as i've learned is generally a wise decision in most cases when boards show 4 to a flush, or 4 to a straight.
Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems facing the reraise I may check and possibly fold my 2 pair to a re-raises from someone showing 4 to a flush/straight....? Granted the pot is not large enough to warrant trying to draw a full house if you haven't seen any of your outs folded....
But anyways, If I were him, I would've folded by 5th no doubt. |

1)I had A 8. The reason I asked was I was wondering if it was obvious I had 2 pairs early in the hand?
If I thought the other player came in with 2 pairs, I think I would of folded and waited for a better opportunity to get my money in.
2) The reason I called the raise was because He needed a 3 or an 8 to complete his strait. He did not know that for the first two streets, but he called my bets, So I Figured that he came in chasing something else, and I was Correct he came in looking to make a flush (unfortunately caught a strait.) However, and also Very important, I had 2 of his Eights, and One of his three's was folded, so why is he raising? hmmmmmmm...may be a bluff, plus my hand can still improve, so I called.
3) I've learned in stud this is a good bluff, first of all, I couldn't tell you how many pots I've taken down with this bluff. and if its before the river you could still complete your flush or strait, if anyone calls your raise.
4)Sometimes a player will have 2 pairs and his exposed cards will look like a strt or flsh, he/she can raise here for deception, knowing that he has really hi odds against him to make his strait, but has 2 pairs and still a chance to "fill up", and of course, could still make the strait. I thought no way is he making the strait, I guessed he came in chasing a flush and probably made 2 pairs, but since one of my pairs was aces, I thought I maybe had the best hand at that time, so I called. |
