I was emailed this problem and the answer unlocks a spreadsheet to which people who get the answer can add their name:

I've already tried 1582 and 14 as answers and they didin't work-any ideas?

ARE YOU SMARTER THEN A FIFTH GRADER?????

Try 210. It doesn't say the little cats are on the bus.

I did try 1584 also to account for a bus driver-maybe I should try 1585 for a male bus driver. I'll try 210.

Number of little cats= 7 girls * 7 backpacks * 7 big cats * 7 little cats = 2401* 4 legs = 9604
Number of big cats= 7 girls * 7 backpacks * 7 big cats = 343 * 4 legs = 1372
Number of girls = 7 *2 legs = 14
9604 + 1372 + 14 = 10990
