Quickly, my background. Been playing online about 2.5 years. The first six months I was a break even player. Then for about a year and a couple months I was a marginal winning player. I took a couple months away from playing on a daily basis then came back and have had a solid winning record for the past six months. My BR management is very conservative. I have transformed myself from a tight/passive player into a tight/aggressive player (I'd like to become even a little more aggressive but that's another discussion). Now to my question.

Is there anyone else who experiences what I think of as positive tilt? By this I mean that the more I experience negative variance and become frustrated with the game the more likely I am to just say **** it and walk away from the table. Another aspect of this is when I take a couple frustrating losses in a tourney and become a short/micro stack I can't just shove the rest of my chips in to get it over with. I have to wait until I have a hand that is at least reasonable for the game I am playing. This tendency has led to at least one MTT win and several money finishes when I've managed to make a comeback after being down to a few hundred chips or less.

As an aside to this how much do you think age has to do with dealing with tilt? As a person ages and gains more maturity/experience are they more likely to be able to deal with the frustration that leads to tilt or do they establish a pattern of 'going on tilt' that actually makes it more likely that they will find themselves playing above their BR, playing marginal hands, chasing outs against the odds?

Thanks for any feedback,

yd

... i wish i could be you...but my tilts are much worse..

i lose a few games..and decide to try to win it back on a much higher stake!!! i get murdered on 25c 50c HU games..but i do it anyway!!! ...

im currently trying to discipline myself so i can do my goal of 0-1k uccessfully...but its going to be a rocky ride

note.. im a substantially winning player at 6.50 turbo SNG (9 per.) and am also a substantially deep player in 3-5$ MTT ....but my cash game is weak at best

hi there,
what explains your 'positive tilt' is your discipline in BR management IMO.
I had a similar effect once I started taking the BR Management seriously.

Also I don't think age has an influence in general. though one would hope to become wiser with age,....there are a lot of ppl out there who prove this idea wrong
