Wonder about the nature of the game -- perhaps the player who called had suspected that the player who went all in was making a desperate stab at a fairly large pot... maybe the player who went all in had gone in several times before and the player who called guessed (incorrectly) that he was BS-ing.
(On the other hand, I personally would be extremely reluctant to bet half my stack on Q10 against someone who was all-in (and hence can't even fold out of fear) EVEN if I *KNEW* the other guy was bluffing. QTo is just too close to random; potentially the other guy could win just by pairing a rag (I guess this concept is reflected in the other post's calculation of the pot odds needed to call, which is big). |

He knew he was getting great ITO
Implied Tilt Odds (TM)
If he wins the hand, you figure to go on tilt and lose a lot more chips to him.

For what its worth I think the 3 big pairs are unlikely holdings as a stop & go would be the more profitable route. Pairs from JJs down and big cards are the most likely candidate although a complete bluff wouldnt be horrible here. It would be nice to see the hand history stack sizes et al but given 2.5 to 1 odds HOH II suggests calling with almost anything!
Another and perhaps more important issue here is the callers gameplan. If he is comfortable at this table and feels that he can win chips with relative ease then he doesnt call this even with a stronger hand - why gamble when you dont need to? His call may be correct odds wise as he told you (very important) but you now have vital information on how to beat this guy. You do not need to finesse this guy with big pairs just push them at him - use pot odds against him! |
