Hand number 35. Villain was very aggressive preflop, never limped, didn't allow limping, and 3 bet me preflop 4 times when I button raised with med hands, which I folded. At this point I was down about ten bucks.
Full Tilt Poker, $0.25/$0.50 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 2 Players

SB: $47.25
Hero (BB): $30.90
Pre-Flop: K A dealt to Hero (BB)
SB raises to $1.50, Hero raises to $4.50, SB raises to $20, |

OK, I thought easy shove, but I'm attempting to get better against the real agro HU players and just wanted a second opinion, sorry to waste your time. Next time Ill give a harder test.
Hero raises to $30.90 and is All-In, SB calls $10.90
Flop: ($61.80) 7 3 7 (2 Players - 1 is All-In)
Turn: ($61.80) 5 (2 Players - 1 is All-In)
River: ($61.80) 2 (2 Players - 1 is All-In)
Results: $61.80 Pot ($0.50 Rake)
SB showed Q A (a pair of Sevens) and LOST (-$30.90 NET)
Hero showed K A (a pair of Sevens) and WON $61.30 (+$30.40 NET) |

easy easy ship-in. jugs, a way of making a "call this shove?"-type thread more interesting would be to ask what range of hands you would call with here. given stack sizes, reads, and pot odds, i think i'm calling with like 88+ AQ+. maybe AJ and 77.
edit: after pokerstoving vs the shoving range 77+, AJ+, ATs, KQs, and a couple random suited connectors to cover the weird times he has nothing, i like calling with the range 88+, AQ+, AJs.
as a general rule of thumb, against an aggressive player and with stack sizes this small, you really shouldn't be 3-betting without a clear idea of how you will respond to a shove. for example with a hand like AT, even though you are obviously way ahead of his opening range, you may still be best off flat calling. you can probably get more value from playing postflop when you flop a good pair than by 3betting. this relates a lot to the other thread around here about JJ, see my and especially Riddim's posts. |

| Reload pre-flop, the rest of the hand plays itself tbh. |

This is exactly my question, I have been struggling with when to 3 bet, I mostly just smooth call and try to get more value post flop, however vs very preflop agro player I feel like I need to fight back more aggressively. This hand was not a good example as I look at it now as he basically pot committed me. Incidentally, I insta called here. So vs this player do you 3 bet more to include the range you posted? Im a strategy forum novice, so thanks for bearing with me.
what about if we have bigger stacks, if i smooth call and that flop comes, If he leads out big I'm prob folding. So with the unpaired hands in your range, are you more likely to shove so as to not get pushed out to a bad flop?
thanks for all your help, I have been reading the JJ thread, but ill read it again. |
