Hi... sorry I couldn't find an answer for this anywhere else.
Im pretty new around here and am reading many of the strategy forums and hand descriptions. At the beginning of most of these, the post begins with "villain is #/#/#"...
I'm assuming these are some kind of profile on that player from some hand-history mining program. But what exactly do these numbers mean? Thanks for any reply. |

Welcome to the forums, Tinky.
Voluntarily Put $ In Pot% / Pre-flop Raise % / Total Aggression Factor
VP$IP = % of time you are limping, raising or calling bets pre-flop. Basically, any time you put money into a pot without being forced, like if you were in the BB.
PR = % of time you are raising pre-flop.
AF = Not really sure, but I think it's a combo of how you play pre-flop, and well as on the flop, turn and river.
For my last 5000 hands I'm running 15.99/12.04/3.57 playing 6-max tables only. That's a little tight, but I'm following a pre-flop chart while I get the hang of 6-max tables. |

Great... Im assuming the aggression factor is higher the more aggressive you are on all streets(open bets, raises etc.)... but your 3.57 would be relatively low?
Thanks for the welcome =] |

| Is this something that almost all players do at high stakes? Is this a good thing to get used to doing? Also, do you find out the #/#/# just by watching a player play at your table, or from previous tables? Do you track this for each player at a table or just the players that you know absolutely nothing about? |

| Tinky, AF is bets+raises/calls. Most people use it excluding pre-flop play. The AF BNS posted is pretty aggressive but nothing extreme. I'd guess that it's at least fairly close to what is ideal for him. |

Most people use a stats program such as PokerTracker to gather the information. Be aware that Full Tilt only allows you to use data from hands you've observed personally. Some programs "mine" data from other sources to give you info on players you've never observed before. These are not allowed.
Tinky, a 3.57 AF is actually fairly high, from my experience. I would rate BOYNAMEDSUE as a Tight/Semi-Aggressive/Aggressive player from the given stats.
My stats for 6-max are: 34.98/14.93/2.61(1608), which makes me a lagdonk or lagtard if you prefer. I'd really like to see the VP$IP number drop and the AF number increase, but it's dangerous to try to make the numbers look good, so I try to ignore the numbers for now. When I get good enough to make a steady profit over 10,000 hands or so, I might have a look at the numbers to see what they tell me.
The number in parentheses is the sample size, which is very important. Due to variance, a small sample can be highly misleading. I find that after 50 to 100 hands, I can get a rough idea of someone's style, but I wouldn't try to draw too fine of a conclusion without thousands (or tens of thousands) of hands in the database. |
