Ok... VERY EARLY in a $24 + $2 45 S&G

The hand:

Full Tilt Poker, $24 + $2 NL Hold'em Sit n' Go, 15/30 Blinds, 9 Players
-

BTN: 1,485
SB: 1,845
BB: 1,500
UTG: 1,170
Hero (UTG+1): 1,500
UTG+2: 1,500
MP1: 1,500
MP2: 1,500
CO: 1,500

Pre-Flop: (45) KSpade KClub dealt to Hero (UTG+1)
UTG raises to 90, Hero raises to 210, 7 folds, UTG calls 120

Flop: (465) KDiamond ADiamond 7Club (2 Players)
UTG bets 465, Hero raises to 1,290 and is All-In, UTG calls 495 and is All-In

Turn: (2,385) 2Diamond (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

River: (2,385) 6Club (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Results: 2,385 Pot
UTG showed QDiamond TDiamond (a flush, Ace high) and WON 2,385 (+1,215 NET)
Hero showed KSpade KClub (three of a kind, Kings) and LOST (-1,170 NET)

I think i've played it correctly. Post flop i put him on AK, AQ because of the UTG raise and the pot sized bet - OR - a flush or straight draw (hardly, after all it is a $24 tournament)...

Can i fold my set to avoid a flush or straight, because the tournament has just started?

Can the UTG maniac fold to my allin in? No... He is pot commited with that bet on the flop... right? No escape?

I don't see how you could avoid what happened.

I lost a crazy hand last night towards the end of the MTT with Trips as well. Here is the hand history:

SB: 6,635
BB: 19,849
Hero (UTG): 11,104
UTG+1: 29,176
MP: 30,411
CO: 6,250
BTN: 8,772

Pre-Flop: (2,850) 5Diamond 5Heart dealt to Hero (UTG)
Hero raises to 2,400, UTG+1 calls 2,400, 5 folds

Flop: (7,650) 3Diamond 9Heart 5Spade (2 Players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets 9,600, Hero calls 8,554 and is All-In

Turn: (24,758) 2Diamond (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

River: (24,758) 4Club (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Results: 24,758 Pot
Hero showed 5Diamond 5Heart (three of a kind, Fives) and LOST (-11,104 NET)
UTG+1 showed QClub ASpade (a straight, Five high) and WON 24,758 (+13,654 NET)

I think we both made the right plays, just had some bad luck.

Raise bigger preflop. More like 275-300.

Never ever ever ever fold on the flop. The flop is standard. Always shove in that spot.

+1. At least 270 preflop. And on the flop, the only hand ahead of you is AA, which we can be sure villain does not hold. You got your chips in good, and if villain wants to chase while it is still in the first level, nothing you can do about it.

You've forced your opponent to commit his stack in which you're a 66% chance to win. Unlucky.

I would usually raise more like 270 - 300 PF, but otherwise you played it exactly the way I would...

Well, i suppose i could raise bigger, but in fact i wanted villain to call. And post flop i sure wanted to put my chips, my clothes and me in the table... Damn hold'em

Doesn't this make you want to chase? all those red cards are so pretty..
By the way.. Later on in a $5 SNG i chase a straight! check it out:

Full Tilt Poker, $5 + $0.50 NL Hold'em Sit n' Go, 20/40 Blinds, 4 Players
-

BTN: 2,865
SB: 2,275
BB: 2,725
Hero (UTG): 1,135

Pre-Flop: (60) QClub JClub dealt to Hero (UTG)
Hero raises to 120, BTN calls 120, SB calls 100, BB calls 80

Flop: (480) TSpade 3Diamond 9Spade (4 Players)
SB bets 280, BB folds, Hero calls 280, BTN calls 280

Turn: (1,320) 8Club (3 Players)
SB bets 640, Hero raises to 735 and is All-In, BTN folds, SB calls 95

River: (2,790) TClub (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Results: 2,790 Pot
SB showed 9Heart 9Club (a full house, Nines full of Tens) and WON 2,790 (+1,655 NET)
Hero showed QClub JClub (a straight, Queen high) and LOST (-1,135 NET)

Pre flop raise is terrible. You have basically told the table you have a monster while at the same time giving your opponent excellent odds to call. A better play would be to just call. A MUCH better play is to make a bigger raise to at least 270.

After the flop there was nothing you could do. Opponent bet big enough to give himself odds to call your all in.

Anyone willing to call 210 is almost always willing to call 270. But the pot is considerably bigger, which is great for you. In this particular hand it may not have mattered. Over a lot of hands with big PPs (QQ+), it will make a difference.
