I am having fun with these at the 3.50 stake. I def think they are beatable and after playing 10 or 20 of them in a row and then moving to a normal speed tourney or SNG it feels like the game is in slow motion.
I think it will be great for working on your shortstack/final table play when u reach something where the money reall matters. And they could also be very profitable given that you can play twice as many in a day as your normal SNG grind. I am gonna need to play about 500 more to find out :p
One thing I have noticed so far though is you can lose alot fast even with the best cards. I had AA cracked in the first 10 hands 3 times already last night, also knocked out with QQ vs 2 callers both holding AK, hit the A on me, KK got me railed 2 times but its odd these were both later game. And I have also gone out with AK and AQ vs and A rag 3 times.
Thats just from my last session of around 20+ of them. |

I played a few hours on Super Turbo yesterday on 14$ +1$ and like you said dcdoorknob, FTP when up really fast. And the most of it is that STurbo last about 20-25 min. Obviously, I think that Super Turbo is alot more fun than regular Turbo SnG

I'm giving serious consideration to quitting work, and 8-Tabling $7.50 super-turbos for 8 hours a day instead.
These are great. No more MTTs for me. |

My 2nd set of 5 not as good as 1st: 4 out of 5 cashes, 2 out of 5 cashes.
Still turned a profit .....

I just played 30 of them tonight at the $3.80 level. Got my ass handed to me to say the least. Only 1 win, 2 seconds, and 6 thirds, net -$41.55.
My ITM% isn't great, but acceptable. It's the fact that when i do get ITM it is 3rd place. Now i do remember two occasions with 3 left where i was all in preflop with my opponent crushed (QQvs22 and AKvsK9) and they sucked out, which would have led to 2nds at the minimum. Also bubbled 5 times, 2 times with the best hand PF and 2 times where my AJ and AQ ran into KK (and of course no A).
So, i'm hoping this is just a little variance. I'll try again tomorrow.

I've been wondering the same. It seems like these are totally beatable (especially since I've noticed the same players at the tables again and again and again, it'd be fairly easy with some note-taking to figure out which players had the sloppiest ranges and bust them), but they use totally different poker muscles than "regular" hold'em.
No bet sizing. No post-flop bluffing. No pot size management. Just push in good and pray.
Also, if anyone is curious about my own small sample size: I've played 12 games so far, gotten 1st twice and 2nd twice. Total Gain: $4.80.
The main upsides (compared to regular speed NL hold'em) that I see are:
1. It's a lot easier to multi table.
2. It's possible to play a round in 20 minutes or less.
3. You can wrack up buckets of FTP.
I can honestly see this as a great addition to the FTP site. Players seem to love it (although for me I expect it will be a passing fancy) and let's face it, it's got to be a huge money maker for the site. The vast majority of games played are low limit, and now you have "casual" players buying in to 10-15 games a night instead of the maybe 1-3 they were before.
Bravo, FTP. Everyone seems to win.

Oh I have no doubt whatsoever that variance in these can be a good 3 or 4 times more brutal than most people would expect, and I imagine the new SNG smell will wear off pretty quickly as soon as anyone goes through one of these brutal stretches.
That said, a player who knows and consistently executes good short stack ICM strategy can't help but become a long term winner as long as he is playing with mostly players who have no clue about this stuff, as is true for the $7 levels and below at least. I definitely believe this to be true, the math really doesn't leave this up for questioning. The real challenge in these is keeping the right perspective mentally, even when things go really bad for a while (which is inevitable if you play enough of them). |

They're marked the same - with the T - but instead, they'll say (Super Turbo) when you open the lobby.
Look for games at 3.50+0.30 and 7.00+0.50. |
