I'm curious, because a lot of the six handed tournaments with guaranteed payouts are rebuys, what the strategy, bankroll requirements are, and if they're actually profitable.

I've never seen one before, but it would seem like there would be a lot more shoving early on to try and build giant stacks, so you ultimately have the disadvantage of having to pay a lot more than the original buy-in implies. Also, it would seem like no one is going to be planning on going out of the tournament early, so you're going to go into hour number two with huge chip stacks compared to the blinds and the majority of players still in. Wouldn't this make the tournament take quite a long time (and thus end up with a likely horrible hourly rate) on top of the huge bankroll limitations?

I feel like I'm missing something. Can someone who plays in the rebuys let me know why it's a good idea?

i don't think your tournament strategy should change that much. from a strategy point of view, take the amount of entries and double it. so if 100 entered, figure in your head you're actually playing a 200 person tournament due to all the rebuys. i only rebuy if i feel that i took a bad beat but that could lead to some tilt play. I don't have stats to back it up, but i bet people who have won rebuy tournies didn't rebuy...i also only add on during the break at the very end. if the add on puts me at chip average than i do it, if i'm already above or it won't put me above chip average, i'll just continue playing. those are just my opinions

The reason many MTT players find an edge in rebuy games, is exactly because of the fact that the second hour begins with most players extremely deep stacked. There's loads of dead money in the prize pool, from the rebuys and add-ons, and a skilled player will have a ton of equity against many of the early chip-leaders who have built stacks by just shoving random cards in the first hour.
