|
|
When I went to turn on my laptop this morning, instead of showing the startup screens the screen just stayed black. I tried just turning it on and then off again but that didn't work. I also googled my problem and someone mentioned to remove the battery for awhile and try again, but that didn't work either. It sounds almost as though my fan is running but my hard-drive isn't, but I'm not too sure. I don't see any picture at all when I look closely, so it's not that the backlight or whatever is burnt out.
I have a HP Pavillion DV2000 laptop running Windows Vista, it's probably about 9 months old. I didn't really download anything new lately, but I do remember updating two Windows Updates a few days ago (although it's restarted fine since then). |

Ok so, first things first... Do you get ANYTHING at all before it goes black? I.E.. does it show any type of text or picture before it turns black? It could be 3 things that I can think of off the top of my head:
1) Your hard drive crashed. When mine crashed I still got a error message saying windows could now start up.
2) If nothing pops up at all, your motherboard could quite possibly be fried, in that case it's time for that warranty I hope you have to come in handy.
3) Your lcd screen is fried. Once again I hope you have a warranty.
Please reply back and let me know if you get ANY type of picture at all before it goes black. Also let me know if you bought the in store warranty or just have the manufacture one. |

| If you have a monitor somewhere around your house (or work), try hooking up the monitor to the projector output on your laptop. At least then you can determine if #3 is your problem or not. |

I removed the battery and just had the AC adaptor hooked up and it started fine. I came across a thread that seemed to have quite a few people having the same problem with the same laptop which helped:

EDIT: it started up fine with the battery put in and everything seems fine, the CPU usage is a bit high though. Thanks for your help, everyone. |

| Laptops are known for their high failure rate (and their slower than standard PC's). Unless you specifically need a laptop, don't touch one. |
