After getting the OK from Rick, Pete and I will be setting up and running MBJ NLHE season 5. Rick will still be providing the FTPs. I wanted to get some opinions on when to play. Is everyone cool with starting it soon, within the next couple of weeks? What days/times would people prefer? Also how long to you think it should run? Regular 20 week season or 10 shortened season or something in between? Please offer any suggestions to make it better.

Rob- Can you add a poll to this thread? Late Friday night on the east coast might be good... people can stay up late since most don't have to work or go to school on Saturday. And that time may work out for people in Europe, Asia and Australia.

We had it on Sunday nights (8 pm EST) last season. That worked fairly well for the Americans and Canadians, but that time is fairly poor for the Eastern Hemispherians.

A poll would be nice.
As for myself, Friday nights 8-9pm est or later is good or the traditional sunday nights.

As for a start time, i kind of like the theory of having the horse league running a bit before starting a NLHE leage. That way you get a good mix and turn-out of players for the HORSE league. Perhaps 60% midway through the horse season, begin the NLHE.

I like HORSE being a 10-week long season because its not as popular. It would be nice to keep the NLHE season at 20 weeks. The longer season makes it much more rewarding in the end for Top rated players as well as the ToC tourny.

Personally, I will find it harder to make a league on weekends during the summer. I'm the outdoors type and try to get my fishng etc. in. May be hard enough to get the horse done.

I am usually reluctant to change, but after reading Pete's reasoning for a 10 week season, I like it.

Great point, gonefshng. Sundays were good in the past, but for a summer season you'll probably be better off having it during the week. I voted for Tues, but Mon, Thurs and Fri are also good for me.

Tuesday or the weekend would be all I could do, but I voted for Sunday.

Thanks gonefshng... and in case you missed it, I'll copy/paste it here. I liked the 20-week season too, but there are many pros to a shorter season:

a. The Top 5 after 10 weeks will most likely be in the Top 5 after 20 weeks. Four of the Top 5 after 10 weeks in HORSE Season 2, ended up in the Top 5 after 20 weeks.

b. To have a shot at a Top 3 spot, you almost have to commit to playing in 15 out of 20 weeks. That's a sizable cash and time commitment to many.

c. We'll now be able to get more "seasons" in during the year... maybe even have a season dedicated to something other than HORSE or NLHE. Personally, I'd love to play a season dedicated to Limit or PL Omaha... maybe we can allow the winner to choose which game he/she wants to play next in the upcoming season.

d. More seasons w/ diiferent time slots means more chances for people to play in these. I know some MBJ regulars could not make the latest 14:00 time slot on Saturday.

e. If Rick dishes out FTP's at the end of the season as he has done for other seasons, this actually works out to be a better deal for us players.

The shorter the season the better IMO. 10 weeks, maybe play in 7 or something like that.

Can we split the difference and make it a 15 week season? 10 still seems a little short to me, but I do agree that the 20 is a bit long. 15, count 12 would be my vote.
