Downloaded this free racing game for the PC called track nations forever. Pretty neat game. I've played better racing games but this game is so addicting.

It has rankings based on country, state/region (if applies to your country), server rankings. even keeps tracks of people on your buddy list.

In order to play you have to get the newest directx verison found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

the download for game is here:

http://www.trackmania.com/en/index.php?lang=en&rub=nations.

The download makes you go through steam i believe. Then from steam you log into game.

I bought the upgraded version of this game (Trackmania United) last year. It's pretty much the same as Nations but it has different environments other than Stadium. The worldwide ranking system is pretty neat but it seems like one of those things that you're only gonna get anywhere with if you really obssess over. Good time-waster though, overall.

I downloaded this game and played it. I have 1 concern. I get the distinctive impression that there are alot of computer bots playing. I know this sounds like 'crazy talk', but hear me out.
I've grew up playing computer games. It didn't matter that it was, I could thrash anyone and this included racing games. Now I know that I'm getting older and I'm not the fastest anymore, however I'm not that bad.
First thing I did when I went into the game was try out the medal challenges, just to see how the game was like. Out of the 18 I tried, I had 17 silver & 1 gold. If I had made the effort, I would have been able to convert at least half the silver into gold.
Then I went on the online server games. What I found was that a bunch of cars were streaking ahead and I around 15th out of 20 on the short challenges. Now you might say, these people are obviously long-term players, who were able to make exacting moves that a newcomer couldn't. The only problem with that is the fact that some of their rankings were basically non-existant. Plus, while you might expect to see a couple of players going fast, the number of them as well as the pattern wasn't normal. Then we came to a basic acrobat course. It was simple. Keep the car straight, do two long air loops and finish. Now if these were even basic players, this was a simple task, yet amazingly they couldn't do this. It was as if they were programmed players who couldn't properly understand the task, a fault like in Nascar (3 I think) on the Bristol circuit.

These things have led me to believe that they are artifically boosting player numbers with bots. Now personnally, I don't believe that this is neccessary. There's more than enough variety in the game, they just need to trim down the fat. As one of the Civ4 developers said, you must consider whether what you are putting in is unique to the game & will enhance it or if it's just another piece of clutter. I believe they have clutter and put programmed players in to fill the clutter. If so, they should cut the clutter and the bots. Then the players will come and fill the games by themselves.
