| bdbranch, have you actually read the paper? If so, there's a decent chance you're the only one in this thread who has. |

It's funny cause it was actually you that I was having the reasonable discussion with. Yet you seem to have ignored that and just went back to the one post earlier where I made a sarcastic remark. |
I would be interested to reading your opinion in support of the research paper. Personally, I don't view the research paper as being the most suitable example to use in support of the general opinion that people with low abilities in certain areas overestimate their ability. The reasons I gave for this was that the professor's bias showed & made the paper less than suitable material and also simple mathemathical fact that a person in the lowest 10% couldn't say that they were in the minus 20%. I've also stated the opinion that the Idol competition example raised by another writer was an excellent example of people overestimating their ability (embarrassingly so).
Now I'm confident that we both agree on the general issue of people overestimating their ability and therefore at least partially disagree with mark. Which leaves the question of the research paper itself. Kindly tell us why do you support the research paper. |

making up drama huh? you're the one who comes into every god damn thread to blast everyone else about how stupid, uninformed, and thoughtless they are, and most of the time you end up looking like a complete idiot. why do you still come here, why do you get off on making these kinds of hostile posts, and why aren't you banned yet? |
Really?
It is YOU that is in just about every thread. I chose a discussion and participate in it so most of my postings are consolidated in specific threads. You seem to have gotten that one completely backwards.
I do not "blast everyone else about how stupid, uninformed, and thoughtless they are", I just do that to you specifically because you are indeed, uninformed, thoughtless and quite often post irrelevant comments to make personal attacks against others and that comes across as stupid.
Most of the time I offer up my opinions in a well thought out and researched manner. You are the guy that generally ends up looking like an idiot and that is evidenced very well by the following you have.
You also got it 180 degrees backwards with the hostility. I am the guy that makes relevant comments even if they are sometimes phrased in a very stern way. You are the guy that posts hostile personal attacks on others that have NOTHING to do with the topic of discussion. The one that should be banned is you.
Besides if they banned you then you would actually be gone because I am about 99.99% positive you are not equipped with the mental faculties to circumvent a forum ban while banning me would be futile because I would just come back whenever I want with a new IP and a new name. Banning me would be futile.

Nope, I never said that. Obviously you need some help with reading comprehension.

Perhaps if you were to educate yourself a bit, like that reading comprehension I suggested then you might understand the things I say. I try to write in a way that most people with a high school education should understand so it is not that much to strive for to be able to educate yourself enough to understand my writing.

If you were half as critical of yourself as I am of myself then you would be twice the man you are which is sorely needed since you are at best half a man as it stands.
The fact that people post such nonsense as they do on the forums here is not really surprising. Trolls like wang are just standard forum fare. Every village has an idiot. The fact that YOU, as a MODERATOR, participate in the activity and protect others that do it is simply disgusting. Grow a pair of balls and act like a man... like a man with a brain in his head.
Most of the internet views this forum as a joke because the lax moderation allows such childish behavior. You turn a blind eye in favor of the guy that has no life and posts 20 o 30 times a day and allow them to bully anybody they wish because the forum would be so boring without their irrelevant antics.
FTPDoug doesn't even bother to post official information on this forum because it is such a joke. How does it feel to be a moderator on a forum that is such a joke they guys that pay for it to be here can't even be bothered to use it? That is something I would be ashamed of if I were in your place but these days you have left me wondering if you even have the intelligence, common sense, or sense of shame to understand that.
You are supposed to be a MODERATOR, not a judge. You are not supposed to be judging the worthiness of an opinion, you are supposed to be moderating so the discussion is civil. You fail miserably at that.
If poster A comes and says 'I believe online poker is rigged because the following reasons' then poster B comes and replies 'Eat it you moron', it doesn't matter that you agree this moron should eat it, you are supposed to remove the rude comment. Instead you turn the blind eye and offer sanctuary to any and every troll that chooses to sit under this bridge.

waldo, what is your educational background? I have an honours degree in physics and I am halfway through my bachelor's in electrical engineering. I have a GPA of 3.6 after 4 years. Is that not educated enough for you?
Why can't you take a step back and look at your posts objectively? There really isn't anyone in the forum offering you any sympathy. You being 38 years old doesn't make you more right, it just makes it more pathetic that you still rant and rave like this. Do you really believe that you are right and everyone else in this forum is wrong? |

In before the ban.
Even if you do get banned and get a new IP address and screen name, we will be able to tell it is you becuase you will be the person with the new screen name and novel sized posts containing nothing but senseless rants and larger vocabulary to make yourself look smarter than you are. Also, there will be words in ALL CAPS to show meaningless emphasis.

Actually, to get personal for a while, being overly critical of myself has kinda been a major issue of mine for most of my life. It doesn't have to be a good thing, and if you think it is that probably means you're less self critical than me. Regardless of how critical you are of yourself though, it's clear that you severely overestimate your understanding of poker. I'm not saying that I'm a great player, but I've got a decent idea of some of the fundamental stuff, which is enough to see how warped a lot of your ideas about the game are.

If you were more active in the strategy forums, specifically the NL/PL one (please don't take this as encouragement), you might notice that I moderate strategy threads differently from non-strategy threads.
As for trolls, the only thing possibly keeping you from being the biggest one by far in these forums is motivation. I mean there is a possibility that you're just completely oblivious to the effect the tone of your posts have on whatever discussion you're involved in or trying to start.

You know that the internet is pretty big, right? "Most of the internet" don't know that these forums exists. Out of the people who could add some good poker content to these forums and know that they exist, most of them probably choose not to because they don't really have any incentive to do so. There are forums out there that have both better strategy discussion and the option of being anonymous without circumventing forum and/or FTP rules.
The whole turning a blind eye thing is a bit funny and you'd probably be surprised if you knew how frequently I ask some of the forumers I've gotten to know best to edit their posts when I find them inappropriate.

Yeah, I definitely agree that it's weird that there are more official announcements on 2p2 than in these forums. While it does make sense in some ways because so many more people who really care about that stuff will be reading those forums, it also makes sense for that kind of information to be available on FTP's own forums as well.
I don't really see where you're going with the rest of that paragraph though. Even if I probably spend an unhealthy amount of my time on these forums, feeling pride/shame because of the state they're in would be a bit pathetic imo.

I didn't stop being a poster when I became a moderator. Just like you can, and frequently do, judge the opinions of other people, so can I. It's also pretty ridiculous to think that there won't be bias, or even that there shouldn't be. If it was that simple the forums could be better moderated by software or a bunch of random people blindly following a set of rules.
Since Rick has had a habit of choosing longtime forumers, I'm inclined to believe that there's supposed to be more to it than that. Don't think I'm claiming to be a perfect moderator or anything close to it though. Just look at the title of this thread. I'll also miss a ton of stuff, because I don't read every single post in the forums and I'm sure I miss quite a bit in all of the posts I only skim through, as well as some stuff here and there even in the ones I actually read thoroughly.
For several reasons, this is especially true in the rigged threads you seem so upset about. Not only do i skip or only skim a lot of the posts because they aren't interesting at all, it's also the forum that I moderate most lightly by far. The reason for that is the nature of the forum, which is extremely low content. Unless you call stupid people finding new ways to express their stupidity valuable content, which I don't, that forum is very close to devoid of valuable content. I mean I don't even think paranoia is a good excuse unless it's to such an extent that it calls for medication and/or institutionalization. When even I find something to be overly paranoid, it's pretty damn paranoid.
To me this says two things about how the forum should be moderated. The first is that it should be a low priority as far as moderation goes and the second is that it doesn't need to be moderated as heavily as the other forums. To clarify, I'm using heavily as a relative term here, since I don't think any of the forums are anywhere close to heavily moderated. As you may be able to figure out, this leads to me doing a whole lot less moderation in that particular forum than in the other ones I read somewhat thoroughly and regularly. Oh and I also just don't care very much whether the discussion in a rigged thread is civil or not as long as it doesn't get to the point where I feel that someone has a legitimate reason to be seriously offended.
I happened to see your comment about dodging a ban while scrolling through the topic review. While you could probably make it really annoying by coming back over and over if you got banned, like drtre said, a new IP/name wouldn't keep your identity hidden for very long. It can't be easy to be this angry at stuff people post on the internet by the way. I think I can honestly say that I feel a bit of genuine empathy for you. That doesn't mean I can't laugh at you though.
