| Wow I thought this was a rumor but it looks like it'll happen. I have mixed feelings, though. Depending on who makes the final table, a few pros hopefully, it can generate quite a bit of hype... |

Those 9 guys will be walking around with bullseyes on their heads for four months. With each one that dies, the payout for the others grows exponentially. It doesn't even have to be one of the players who sets up the hit. It could be anyone who has a piece of a player, or anyone simply betting on the results.
Also, what the hell is the point of postponing the final table if it's NOT EVEN GOING TO BE SHOWN LIVE!? What's the difference if it's shown a day after the event or four months after the event? Anyone who wants to know the results can look it up online before it airs in both cases. If you want true excitement from the unknown, it has to be carried live. |

| Watching the downward spiral in tournament quality, customer service, and plain fun that occurred from 2006 to 2007 was depressing enough. Good or bad, it's not poker. And, in no other sport do we have a 4 month delay between the playoffs and the championship. Now we have "The Real World - WSOP" - nine strangers . . . . I'm going hiking this summer instead of to the WSOP. |

One thing you guys are forgetting is how much money the final 9 can make on promotional appearances, sponsorships, and just have their "day in the sun" for 4 months. I'm not so sure I'd be upset about the wait for an extra million or two and a lucrative sponsorship deal, especially if it extends beyond the ME. As for the delay and chance to study up, I figure every one will have the same ability to study one another, and while some lucky noob may get better, there's only so much you can get from coaching. Experience is the best teacher. The best players will be best able to use these new benefits to their advantage.
Yeah, this whole idea is pretty self-serving for Harrah's and ESPN, but the players stand to gain here too. |
somthing tells me if id just tied up 9th place money (im going to guess at over $1M) id be hitting every table in vegas for 5 months to get the practice and experience needed
seriously, the noobs are getting a MASSIVE boost from this
honestly, i hate this idea, i aggree with the fact that over 4 months, old friends, beggers and the like will mystically appear at your doorstep for cash, and your effectively walking around with a massive bulseye over your head until the final table
everyones saying someone might die before the final table
and i would actually put good money on it to be honest
ESPN, WSOP, PLEASE!!! reconsider this, good tv yes, good for the game? this is about as bad as it could get
if it works? yeah sure its gonna be a huge sucsess, if it fails, it wont be any small failure, youll have assured yourself maximum TV time to show your biggest mistake to date
please...just dont |

ESPN wont make it live, they couldnt give up 20+ hours of TV time, that just wouldnt be good BUISNESS, not that poker should be a buisness, ever, but there you go |

has it ever been anything else?
I can't even see Doyle making the rounds back in the 60s "for his health."
Also, keep in mind that the poker boom has come about because execs realized there was good money to be made on poker, from a business standpoint.
Heck, it's even the reason FTP exists. |

That doesn't change the fact that someone could need heart surgery, get stuck on a plane after a bomb threat, or just die before the final table. I think his point was that while the circumstances would be rare, this *does* increase the chance that someone could just plain miss the final table.
That said, I think financially, this will actually help players, and if I made the final table, I wouldn't mind waiting four months to play it. Why? You'd become a huge poker celebrity overnight, and you could stand to make a fair bit of money on endorsements and commercials.
Heck, at the very least, you could get Phil Ivey to send you a signed FTP baseball cap. |
