Honestly, all this is is a discussion of semantics. Poker really has nothing to do with it at all, it's just people saying, "I think 'sport' means this!" Followed by another post, "No, it means that!"
So, let's consult the dictionary, shall we?
1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
2. a particular form of this, esp. in the out of doors.
3. diversion; recreation; pleasant pastime.
(additional irrelevant definitions deleted.)
So, there you have it. According to www.dictionary.com, "sport" can be used to describe an athletic event (which poker is not) or a pastime, (which poker is).
Everyone's right! |
