| great article this week by Clonie Gowen. But i am interested in knowing what to do with those odds after you have calculated them. Meaning. What kind of odds is a player looking for? what is "considered" to be an "appropriate" percentage for a player to stay in a hand? is the 35-37% as stated in her article considered a good % or does it need to be quite a bit higher? what would be the "lower" end of the scale. where between 0-100% should a player feel comfortable in staying in a hand? |

Hi
Yes , I think that these pot odds are used to calculate the amount you should either call or fold with. For example,if the odds of you hitting your card are 35 percent ,then you should not commit more than 35 percent of the total in the pot . Of course, you also have implied pot odds which relate to the amount of money in the pot by the time the hand reaches the river.
In essence, if the pot is 120 dollars and someone makes a 40 dollar bet,you should call if your pot odds are 35 percent, because the call is costing you 40 dollars which is only 25 percent of the pot (120+40) and thus within your imposed limit of 35 percent.
If you stick to using pot odds in your game,you will win;over the long term.
If you stick to using pot odds on line,you will win because ;
1)It is correct poker
2)It is amazing how many people dont use this very basic poker tactic.
Bonne chance
I hope this is clear,and I would welcome any other comments to both the original comment and mine . |

It's a little more complicated than this although it's a good foundation there's also Implied odds, how much will i win if i hit so even though i might not be getting the correct odds to call a bet at the flop if i hit and i think i can take someones stack for eg with an open ender or a flush draw then it might be worth it if i have a deep stack.
There's always a chance someone is bluffing at the flop and will check the turn after you call the bet at the flop giving you a free card so of course poker is never so straight forward
