First time post so be gentle.
I have been on full tilt since christmas and knew little about actual play, sure had watched everthing i could get my hands on, but play against real opposition (WPT on x-box not count right) was non-existent.
In 4 months of chip play i have learned much on this wonderful site including the fascinating world of being called all the names under the sun and earned myself 1,500,000 in play chips. I am currently to be found on the 300/600 (sticking to the 10% bankroll ideal)
Not bad thinks I.
Might put some cash on thinks I.
Good idea?
Or am i just kidding myself?
I do understand that chip play and cash play are different, but how different?
I put in 5 hours every day, i am very commited to playing poker and to learning and improving. I understand, if not always use, the odds theorys (so little time to calculate during a game but a close estimation usually works).
I'm not scared to loose my deposit as i understand this is the most likely outcome to start with.
It's just that I don't want to seem like some kind of utter Flapjack.
Going in thinking i'm Chris Ferguson and come out looking like Sarah Ferguson.
Any advice on this subject would be of great value to me and who better to ask then those in the know.
Also one small point relating to the above.
Was asked by a friend on FT how many chips I had so I told him, then half the table said to brag on fake money is 'a bit sad really', fair enough,
bragging about wealth is not one of my things 'aint got none cant brag none' but I had played some what can only be described as EPIC sessions and sweated tears and cried blood to get them (chips) so why not have some pride in my stack, I've worked damn had to get (and keep) them, they might as well be real money all the worry they have given me.
Anyway I go on too much but thanks for listening (yes i know reading) and hopefully replying to my post.
I'll see you out there. |

| I think you should give real money poker a shot. There are alot of differences between real and play money poker, but it is the same game. One thing I learned quickly when I switched was that the action is alot different. In play money most people play alot more loose than most real money players so you have to do some adjusting. I haven't been playing real money on here for very long, but I am very glad that I finally took the plunge. It is much more exciting to me with money on the line. I think that if you enjoy the game and dedicate five hours a day to playing it, why not do that with some real money and see how you do. Play money is a good way to learn the basics, but if you are serious about learning the game then real money is definatley the next step in doing so(I know I've been learning alot). Since I played play money for a while before I switched, I do think that 1,500,000 in 4 months is pretty impressive. I heard that you can play in some sort of $15 free roll with 500,000 play chips as the buy in, so if you do decide to play real money you have enough play chips to play in three of them and all your hard work accumulating those play chips could potentially make you some money as well. Whatever you decide I wish you luck. |

| Kidding yourself? You think it takes a special kinda person to play for money? Trust me, from what you've said, I'm inclined to think you have a lot more promise than most people that play for cash. You've got a positive attitude, with realistic expectations, and you're not emotionally invested in immediate success. Get em in here and good luck. Granted, play money is play money, but you don't just luckbox your way into 1.5 mill in 4 months, so once you get the feel of the cash play, you'll do fine. Or you'll learn something. Either way you'll improve. |

| I think once you have a basic understanding of how the game is played the next step is to play for real money. You will most likely lose the first few deposits you make. That's just the way it goes. You should still deposit, though. It is very hard to learn poker playing for play chips. |

You'll do fine. You're already studying the game which puts you ahead of a large number of players who think they know the game because they play "screw your neighbor" or 5 card draw with 5 different wild cards.
Also, this line:

Yup, +1 to what everyone else already said.
Also, it sounds like you do it already, but keep practicing good bankroll management once you do deposit. You'll be less likely to lose your first deposit. |

i played here for some time....i lost but also won ....i spend about the same time as you on the site(or maybe a little more) and learn lots...did deposit real money and as this guys say, at first i lost but after i got the hang of it i start winning some....i got adventurous and because, like you ,i am not affraid of losing my deposit i played higher stakes and eventually lost....most i like are $5.50, $6.50,$24 SNGs,but i played sundays brawls, $150 turneys etc..its a lot better than playing play chips!!!
my advice to you is start small...$5.50,$6.50 SNGs 9 players...it will last u for a while and will give you time to adjust.
make sure you are reading the small print (unlike myself),and know that
support will allways answer your emails..it takes them longer due to the volume but they do...that in case you have some questions or run into deposit troubles like myself.but there is allways this forum where you can find most questions you have will be explained by somebody who can give you some advice.make sure you keep all the info like the email coresponding to your account. it is the only email that will get you in contact with your account!!!!!! allways write from the email associated with your account (in case you have more than one email address) if you ever need to contact support.
you will have good days and bad days...but overall its fun..
good luck |

They'll be the only 500k tourney in the tournament/play money section. They are only once a day, but I'm not sure of the time. I'm sure you won't have any problems finding it.
Good luck. |

Thank lenny found the tourney 5000 entrants and win a quid - score - lol.
Will probably save em and use them for practice on the higher tables, have been using them to practice things like bluffing/agression which I need to work on b4 cash games.
Also won some FTPs on a freeroll and have been sitting on them like they were gold bars covered in Kate Hudson.
Only by-ins at this level are turbo tho and i am utter sh/te at turbo still might be worth a punt.
Thanks all for replying, two weeks and counting....
Tick...
Tick...

It Don't Pay If You Don't Play...D.Ebel
That is my favorite personal quote and it has a bit of truth to it. However, looking back I think I came up with it when I played crap and sucked out on someone, in a live game at an old school card room. I certainly didn't come up with it playing online poker, lol.
You don't need anyone to give you the go ahead to play cash games. If you want to play with some real cash then do it. Start off small and don't go in expecting it to have the same outcome as you saw with play chips. Because you won't.
Before I found Full Tilt, I played regularily on several other sites with play chip bankrolls in the tens of millions. On this site I turned 1000 play chips into over 100,000 one afternoon.
Free play poker is completely different than real money play, for the same reason casinos enforce players to gamble with chips instead of cash. It is easy gamble with little plastic chips that have no real value. If people were to gamble with actual money instead of chips the casinos would go bankrupt. (that is an exageration but you get the idea).
So I guess my thoughts on your post is...if you want to try it with real money for no other reason than the fun of it...then do it! If you are looking to make a profit like you do with play chips let me know what table you are at, lol. (j/k) Seriously, if that is what you are looking for then you may be dissappointed.
Go do it...just start off slow and in smaller amounts.[/b] |
