Dude, that's rough. But why the call pre-flop?

You could have increased your stack by 50% without even seeing a flop.

There was 10,375 out there pre-flop (4000+4000+1000+500+875). You should have moved all-in right then. You may have been called by the AJ, but the chances of him folding pre-flop are better than the chances of him folding after he hit his A.

I agree - push it in preflop. However, that sucks. Happens, though.

He did the right play IMO. He wanted to get some value out of it, but unfornately he got sucked out on.

just wanted to say that this guy was the biggest call station at the table and the fact that he called an early raiser with AJ proves it, if i had reraised preflop im almost certain he wouldve called anyway. one of these hands once in a while is expected but i was playing 4 tables at once when this happened and similar things were happening on all 4 tables.

When I'm holding AK, I will tango with anyone at any time, chip leader, average stack, maniac, calling station, it doesn't matter. AK isn't a hand you play pre flop for value Alanjt . . . you don't have a made hand, AK offers you something called folding equity, it's a great hand to steal blinds with. He only had 20 BB which isn't much, after 1 orbit he's already invested 2625 and now he's only got 18 or so BB which is then time to switch to shortstack mode . . . if you have AK with 20 BB and are faced with a raise, you are all in EVERY TIME. You're looking to double up here, get upto over 40 BB and have a legitimate chance to make the final table. It may not have changed the outcome of the hand, but it would have been a much better play.

To win tournaments you cannot become so results oriented, you need to gamble, make moves, and steal chips, just calling here isn't smart, you're risking 4,000 to see a flop that may not help you when you could steal blinds with an all in.

I've learned that lesson the hard way twice in live MTTs this past week. I bet 3x BB to entice action and got outdrawn by people with small pocket pairs who hit sets on the flop. If I had pushed in harder, those pocket crabs and 5's wouldn't have looked so good.
