No one is saying dwell on it, or let it affect your game.

It reminds me of how good I must be playing to get people committed to pots with a 12% or less chance of winning. |
Am I missing something here? |

Of course, if we're serious about improving our play and grinding out a long-term profit, we MUST desensitise ourselves from the psychological pain of losing a big hand. Our only concern is whether we played the hand well.
Whatever. Here's mine:
The FTOPS Main Event, about 5 months ago now I think. Didn't get the HH because the table was broken up immediately after I lost the hand, and there was a bug in the HH saving. Anyway, it was 2 hours in, and I was in the top 20% of the remaining field. With an M of well over 50, I was playing patient, ABC poker against a table of vastly superior players. I'm playing several miles out of my BR, but I don't care. I won my seat for $75, but I'd have bought in anyway.
I mentioned that I'm surrounded by better players. Except, there's one guy at the table with a horrible OPR. He plays $5 games, and loses. I'm in the BB, and am dealt JJ. The one and only fish at the table limps UTG, there are 2 other limpers. I put in a big raise (sorry if this is very vague, but I'm not going to make up numbers if I can't remember them), and the fish flat calls. The others fold.
The flop comes A A x, and the fish MIN-BETS. I shake with rage, take time, and call. He's basically just checking, I remind myself. No need to raise, he's no doubt got A3os or some crap. Let's just cut our losses and call him down.
Turn is J. He min-bets again. I jump out of my seat, and scream something along the lines of "serves you right, you silly person" at the monitor. I take time again, and pump in a massive raise. This fish is either holding an ace, and paying me off, or he isn't and he won't. I don't slow-play my big hands.
He thinks, and calls. River is a blank, and he LEADS OUT WITH A MIN-BET. I shove instantly, and he calls instantly.
He had quad aces, obv. I defy anyone not to feel sick to the stomach for several days after that one. |

LostOstrich, I'm sorry, that's not a bad beat at all. You where dominated the entire way. Sucks just the same though.
Just remember a bad beat is defined as when a very strong hand that is a statistical favorite to win loses to a much weaker hand that hits a lucky draw.
The aces where not on a draw, you where. |

| It's not a bad beat at all. It's a big hand that I lost, and that still annoys me. As per the thread title. |

Weather or not its right, I'm terrible when it comes to dwelling on a big hand that I lost. I've had many, and the most recent is always the worst.
The one I'm on now is from a 6max MTT final table with 4 left. One guy I already had painted a mental target on because he was such an idiot.
Anyway I flop top pair with a solid kicker, he bets huge, I shove (insert criticism here) he CALLS WITH NOTHING (but a weak ace) AND HITS RUNNER RUNNER STRAIGHT!...ARGH! I would hace been 2nd in chips with a good shot at taking this down for over $200, but nooo, 4th for $40 somthin. Thats what makes it hurt, not so much the suck-out.
I'll get over this one as soon as the next one happens.
I'll even dwell on hands other people lost. One was a hand LostOstrich posted. He really dramatized it by leaking a little of the hand over several posts. (A9 vs river 4 flush ring a bell?)I was waiting anxiously for the outcome. When I finally read it, I was shocked. I really think that affected my play for several days. And it didn't even happen to me! LOL |
