In Hold'em it is a standard practice to multiply your "outs" by 4 on the flop and 2 on the turn to calculate your approximate odds of winning the hand.

Does this same rule apply in PLO? Does it matter if you are playing 6 or 9 handed?

Just curious. Any replies would be appreciated.

Same calculations for outs in omaha as HE. Just likely to have more outs in omaha, but fewer nut outs.

Its not exactly the same. You are actually slightly more likely to hit a draw in omaha than in holdem because there are two less cards in the deck to draw from. So if you have 9 outs to a flush on the turn in holdem, you have 9/46 chance of hitting compared to 9/44 in omaha.

also remember that it's outs x 4 on the flop to get there by the river. NOT to get there on the next card. Very common mistake. Also, once you start getting up in to the larger number of outs that rule doesn't really apply. 20 outs isn't 80% to win. But it doesn't really matter once you get that high either because you're a favorite in the hand anyway.

the best way to calculate outs in any game IMO, is

Number of outs X 2 + 2

That will get you the odds of hitting an out on the next card. I like it, it's simple and will always work on any street where 1 card comes out.

I really only use the Rule of 4 x 2 on all in situations on the flop. Everything else I use the Double Plus 2.

Here's what I have taped above my computer desk:

One thing you always need to consider is that your outs aren't good as easily in omaha as in holdem... someone with a set or 3 pairs has a decent redraw if you hit, and sets are way more common in omaha than holdem. If a tight player raising preflop and the flop is AKQ then they have a set here a lot of the time.
