once it was down to three player it took maybe 10 hands before john got the best of Helen and put her out.
I was unable to catch any hands during that time but was quite content to let them battle it out.

Now that heads up begins I am 2to1 underdog in chips.

The key to HU is aggression, aggression aggression-at the right times.

In HU the starting is not as important as the board unless you make it all the way to the 7th which will happen infrequently.

This example, maybe third hand or so into the HU.

JOHN THROWS IN THIS RAISE I ASSSUME IN CASE I HAVE BRICKS IN THE HOLE OR IF I PAIRED MY 8. HE IS TRYING TO GET INFORMATION FROM ME SO I OBLIGE HIM AND CALL TELLING HIM, "I HAVE YOU BEAT" WHEN I MAY NOT BUT HE CANNOT KNOW THAT.

A few hands later, I have been getting the bring ins and John has been stealing them.
Then this hand happens, note our starting chips....

Aggression!!! it pays off right at the beginning. In HU razz get your chips in while you are SURE you are ahead with out any doubt. In the end you might not be ahead but hopefully you will see it coming and fold in time to fight another hand.

JOHN INSTEAD OF BRINGING IN GOES AHEAD AND COMPLETES THE HAND. WITH HIS 10 HIGH AND MY STARTING HAND I PUSH HARD AND RAISE. TO MY SURPRISE HE RAISES BACK. THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY HE IS AHEAD AND FROM THIS POINT AS LONG AS I DRAW BETTER I CANNOT LOSE.

EVEN THOUGH I DRAW A 9 SO DOES JOHN, MY 9 INDUCES JOHN TO CALL I IMAGINE. HE MUST THINK THAT I AM BLUFFING AND MUST HAVE A PAIR OR A BRICK IN THE HOLE.

WHEN JOHN RAISED HERE HE HAD TO HAVE THOUGHT I HAD PAIRED THE A. WITH MY 8 SHOWING ON THE STARTING THREE HE MUST HAVE THOUGHT THAT MY HOLE CARDS WERE A2 OR SOMETHING OF THAT NATURE. WHY I DID NOT RE-RAISE HIM? TO GIVE HIM HOPE THAT HE HAD A GOOD CHANCE.

I took the lead by getting my chips in the pot and making him risk his chips while I was in the lead.
We went back and forth a bit until this last hand. I have a slight advantage in chips and my opponent unwisely tried to push a hand that was less then premium against my excellent starting hand.

AGAIN aggression, getting him to risk his chips while I am ahead pulls down the pot and the win from a 2 to 1 chip underdog at the start of HU.

In HU you can with the correct play get the chips and with a mistake or two can lose your whole chiip stack.

I COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER STARTING HAND. JOHN COMPLETES BUT BECAUSE OF WHAT I KNOW ABOUT MY HAND I AN CERTAIN THAT HE HAS NOT STARTED (A2)3. I AM SO SURE THAT I AM WILLING TO BET MY CHIPS ON IT, IN FACT I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT HE HAS NO BRICKS IN THE HOLE BUT I ASSIGN HIM (65)3. I CONSIDER IT UNLIKELY THAT HE HAS EITHER AN A, 2 OR 4 IN THE HOLE SO I FIGURE HIM FOR A 65.

I PAIR MY 4'S BUT IN MY MIND HE HAS PAIRED HIS 6'S. HE CANNOT KNOW THAT I HAVE PAIRED MY 4'S AND I BELIEVE HIM TO BE AGGRESSIVELY TRYING TO TAKE THE POT.

I OUT DRAW HIM ON 5TH. I ASSUME WE HAVE BOTH PAIRED AND HE IS AT J HIGH AND ME A 10 HIGH, I AM SLIGHTLY AHEAD I ASSUME.

I NOW HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IF I AM AHEAD ANYMORE OR NOT. WITH THE BETS AS BIG AS THEY ARE I BELIEVE HE HAS COMMITTED HIMSELF I AM ON A WHEEL DRAW BUT HE MAY HAVE COMPLETED TO THE 8 BUT I CONSIDER IT UNLIKELY, IN MY MIND HE IS STILL J HIGH.

I AM 10 HIGH AND NOT AT ALL PLEASED AT HOW MY HAND HAS TURNED OUT. BUT FOR SUCH PITIFUL FEW MORE CHIPS, WELL I CALL IF I WIN THEN I HAVE WON, IF NOT THEN I HAVE LOST. AGGRESSION IS A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD....

AS YOU CAN SEE HE STARTED WITH EITHER THE K OR 10 (MOST LIKELY THE 10) IN HIS STARTING 3. AGGRESSION IS REQUIRED FOR HU BUT AT THE RIGHT TIMES. THIS WAS NOT THE RIGHT TIME FOR HIM TO ATTACK THE POT.
