I am playing in a live HOSE tournament tommorrow. I have experience in hold'em (duh), omaha 8, and some stud, but I haven't ever played Stud 8. I would like some advice on Stud 8 strategy. I did read the book High Low Split Poker for Adv Players by Ray Zee about 3 months ago, but never played the game for more than play chips. I will reread that book tonight and tommorow, but any advice you guys could give here would be great. Anything from starting requirements, to how to play against hands that could be going both high and low, ect would be good to know. Thanks.

Let me add that the players I will be going against are mainly holdem home game players (range from sub par to decent) that arent very skilled in mixed games. My guess is that many pots will be limp fest, mostly multiway, and loose with both aggressive and passive players. I would take a guess that many players will play all kinds of hands from AK4, QJ8, 445, 993, ect. (not really sure, but I expect plenty of action).

In limp fest's against bad players, don't bother with being tricky, it's unnecessary. Focus on value betting/raising when you feel you are near nut either way. Don't try to drive people off hands by what your board is representing either. Your opponent(s) will not likely understand what you're doing. The result is a big pot. You want a big hand for the big pot.

In multi way pots, you really want stronger hands. Playing fewer but for bigger value is my general approach. In most situations, the only pairs I'm playing are split K's+ and buried J's(w/baby up)+. If the board is right, I might add shorts w/an ace. Board being right is alot of 8's-J's showing.

3 coordinated lows and 3 suited lows are good for sure. You may be able to get away with playing 86's+ for 1/2 pot. It can be worthwhile if the opponents don't understand the game and it's a family affair each hand. But again, this is situation specific.

Stay away from the crappy overs and other junk like K23,10JK,679. The last 2 I would probably play if suited and draws were live.

Throw in a little aggression here and there, check/raise and reraise some big draws. Intimidate them a little. You'll pick up some free cards and some extra bets on occasion.
