This guy seemed to be playing solid enough to hold his own, but wasn't a HORSE expert. We had quietly squeezed the Short Stack down to almost nothing, and then this happened.....I was stunned as to what he was thinking.

This seems like horrid bubble play, considering that neither of us had bullied the other out of a pot when there was an opportunity for a checkdown.

That has to be a mis-click. There is no other reasonable explanation.

Plus I'm sorry I missed your games tonight, but something came up. Next week for sure.

If I did that, it would be to fold a pair. As in, I made a pair of Tens, and now I'm throwing it away. I didn't have a choice about the bring, but I'm trying to save the short stack. I'm trying to save the short stack, because I think you'll fold almost all non-premium hands and let me steal in peace until the short guy gets whittled down again. The limits are still too high for this, but that's my non-mistake reasoning. The question this spawns: what is a sufficient steal percentage to make this play correct?

What are you talking about???

It costs him 75 more chips for a possible check down into a 1200 chip pot........that's the whole point of this thread.

Both bigger stacks are in a pot and could possibly go crazy, so just fold the hand on third street. The play of calling the bring in then pushing as first to act is designed to add some fold equity to the situation. Simple stop n go. However when it's 75 into 1200 this play should never get someone to fold.

What he's talking about is purposely trying to keep the short stack in the game and even feed him chips in order to keep pressure on the other big stack(you). This strategy works better on the bubble rather than with top 3 but the idea is that since there is a short stack you will play more conservatively waiting out the short stack and he can use that to his advantage by stealing from you so that when the short stack is finally eliminated he will have a dominating chip lead over you and a much bigger chance of winning.
