What do you think about this play? TOP says its a must for expert players. I try it occasionally when I think it has a chance to work, but haven't actually gotten it to work until tonight. The problem I see with it is that the only players that are donkey enough to bet their **** hands OTR w/o knowing whether its a bluff or a value bet are too donkey to fold when you try the play.

I tried it again later in the session, using it on a guy I put on a flush draw, and also showing a pair of 9s. I tried it after I myself missed my own flush draw, and he ended up "thinking" for a while and called with just his 9s. As you can see, he definately didn't know what his own bet on the river was for, and was then too donkey to fold after I told him I could beat his hand.

IMO, I think you are pretty right that it's hard to apply to low limit games. Most of the time, I'd have to think you'll see a call. Any transplanted NL donk is going to instacall, as well as any plain old donkey. I think it's a play that takes a good knowledge of your opponent to make. It also infinitely more effective if you are making the same play occasionally with very good hands, and get called. Overall though, I don't play this level so I can't really say, but I imagine there are definitely more profitable lines to take.

I have to agree here. This is not a play i can even consider at the .50/1.00 level. The problem with the play is in a large pot where it doesn't have to work too often, it likely will never work. In a small pot where it has to work more often, it hardly makes it worth it.

In this particular hand, you are investing $12 (two bb) on the river to win a little more than $60.00 (10 bb), so your play has to work about 1 out of 6 times to be profitable. Unless you have some strong read on this player, you can't expect him to fold here 16-17% of the time.

I had a strong read he was on a flush draw, and would fold a good amount of the time he missed that. You are right though, this play isn't all that profitable at this level. I probably have to wait til like 10/20 or so before I try it regularly.
