I can't imagine flops hitting like this very often, so I was curious as to what I could have done differently here, if anything, to get a little more value out of this hand. Perhaps my bets were simply too large?

The 5 was obviously a bad turn for you, because usually only a wheel would bet that board. No flush draws out there. Maybe check 4th street then put a decent sized bet out on the river to get paid off by a set or two pair with a worse low?
